Taxi Driver (1976)
The character Vince Carter is based on the character Travis Bickle from the 1976 film and quotes Travis's lines often.
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
Alex Mack has the ability to move and pick up objects with her mind, much like the Force.
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982)
In the show's intro, Alex Mack use her telekinetic powers to make objects fly in circles in her bedroom. This is a reference to the famous scene in which E.T. makes objects in Elliot's bedroom float and spin in mid air with his mind. Also the subplot of the chemical company searching for Alex Mack to "turn her into a science experiment" parallels the subplot of goverment agents constantly searching for E.T. for scientific experimentation.
Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983)
Like Emperor Palpatine, Alex Mack can shoot lighting from her fingertips.
Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)
The CGI effect of the T-1000 character morphing into a mobile puddle of liquid metal in "Terminator 2" was a revolutionary and highly influential special effect in the 1990s. The effect was used in Capri Sun commercials during their "liquid cool" campaign in the 1990s. It was also used in TV shows. Alex Mack also has this ability to morph into a mobile puddle of clear liquid, in reference to the film.
