‘American Idol’ Recap: The Final Fourteen Sing for America’s First Vote

‘American Idol’ Recap: The Final Fourteen Sing for America’s First Vote
Nearly one hour into “American Idol,” judge Katy Perry nearly gave up waiting for someone to “start the show.” Then Ada Vox (pictured) stepped up to the microphone. Dramatically standing center stage and channeling her inner Freddie Mercury with power and conviction over a, perhaps, overzealous band, some notes may have sounded strained but the emotion made it work.

“I was waiting for someone to show up,” said Perry.

Added Lionel Richie: “You have no idea how fabulous you are… you came here tonight to stop the show.”

Vox was certainly looking like the one to beat, and her

American Idol Top 14 Recap: 'Live' Finals Get Off to a Rocky Start
“I’m Ryan Seacrest, and this is… a series of terrible song choices.”

At least that’s how Sunday’s American Idol probably should have been introduced. Though the performances improved dramatically as the two-hour event progressed, this episode — the first one where America’s opinion actually matters — found some of Season 16’s best singers at their worst.

But was it all because of nerves? Or are we finally separating the dreamers from the achievers? You be the (fourth) judge as we break down all of tonight’s performances:

Caleb Lee Hutchinson

Katy Perry nailed it when she praised Hutchinson for his remarkable evolution.

‘American Idol’ recap: Top 14 sing for America’s votes on Night 13 of Season 16 [Updating Live Blog]
Six weeks after the revival of “American Idol” hosted by Ryan Seacrest began on ABC, America finally gets a chance to vote as the Top 14 take to the stage on the April 22 episode. These finalists survived a grueling process that began with winning over the three judges — Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie — at a regional audition and getting a ticket to Hollywood.

A whopping 169 would-be winners made the trip to La La Land, before being cut to 50. That group then competed both individually and in groups before the judges decided on the Top 24. Those two dozen artists were then asked to sing both solo and in duets with celebrities and convince the three judges that they deserved a place in the Top 14.

'Smallville' Actress Allison Mack Arrested for Her Alleged Role In the Notorious Sex Cult, Nxivm

Actress Allison Mack — best known for playing Clark Kent's friend Chloe Sullivan on the TV show Smallville — has been arrested for her role in the alleged sex cult, Nxivm. The Daily News reported that the 35-year-old was a "recruiter" that not only lured innocent women in, but also required the slaves to engage in sexual acts with the group's leader, Keith Raniere. She also allegedly gave Raniere naked photos of the slaves. Allison — who reportedly ranked right below Raniere in the cult's hierarchy — last made headlines after she was seen chasing Raniere as cops arrested him in Mexico. The group, which was founded by Raniere, was first exposed in a New York Times feature. Back then, Frank Parlato, a former spokesman for Nxivm, claimed in his blog that Allison was second in command, which turned out to be true. In fact, he stated that she was running a sorority

This "Fun" Fact About Rachel's Meat Trifle on Friends Might Make You Lose Your Lunch

One of the most hilarious (and disgusting) scenes in all of Friends history has to be in "The One Where Ross Got High," when Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) attempts to make dessert for everyone on Thanksgiving. Due to two pages of her cookbook getting stuck together, she accidentally whips up half a dessert dish and half a meat dish, and voila: the infamous meat trifle was born.

During Matt LeBlanc's recent appearance on The Graham Norton Show, the actor - who played food-loving Joey Tribbiani on the sitcom - recalled a story that will make you feel a little queasier than usual about the scene.

"There's a really funny story with that," he said, chuckling. "It was this meat trifle with whipped [cream], really nasty. But what we were actually eating was not that. Storywise, it was just whipped cream and some bananas or something." He went on to explain how

Courteney Cox Reveals the Challenges She's Facing While Raising Teenage Daughter Coco

Her daughter may officially be in her teenage rebellion years, but Courteney Cox and Coco Arquette still maintain a close relationship. The Friends alum does admit that raising a teenager comes with its challenges, though. "I want her to tell me everything, and she doesn’t want to tell me anything," Courteney said of her 13-year-old daughter. "Exactly the opposite of the childhood I had." Although the mother-daughter duo butt heads every now and then, the 53-year-old actress knows this is just a normal part of parenthood. "We bicker, let’s be honest, but we love each other," she continued during a joint interview alongside Coco with People. "We laugh a lot, for sure." Coco added, "I would also describe it as, well, I am a 13-year-old girl, you are a mom, so I love you, but of course we’re gonna get in fights. But we’re very close.

Looking Back at Lost in Space

Depending on your age your first encounter with The Space Family Robinson may have been courtesy of Master of Disaster Irwin Allen, who brought the show Lost in Space to Us TV for three seasons in the late ’60s. Joining the technicolor wonder of the original Star Trek in their second series (the first was shot in Black and White) the Lost in Space series was reflective of a future-looking American society, whose own journey to the stars was taking place at the time.

With the best science fiction holding a mirror up to the dreams and troubles of contemporary society, the original Lost in Space may come across as a kitsch take on Forbidden Planet and the numerous other outward bound adventures. However it drew on the public’s fascination with the colonisation of space, as well the encroaching advent of the Cold War, to serve up a memorable

Chicago Med Season 3 Episode 15 Review: Devil in Disguise

  • TVfanatic
Our leading men were not their best selves on Chicago Med Season 3 Episode 15. But while they might be heading to major slumps, at least Maggie's back in the game.

She's just going to have to face what she was willing to do to get there.

Connor's rising start certainly took a nose dive this week.

Even though I think that presenting all the options to the parents was the right call, it was kind of refreshing to see one of the docs get called out on going rogue.

But even if Latham's criticism was justified, it hurt to see their bro-mance damaged like that. And I feel bad for Ava -- nobody wants to know that they're the second pick. Norma Kuhling did a really great job despite not having many lines.

To perform an operation with as many moving parts as this, you need confidence that the people you

Jimmy Kimmel Fires Back at Hannity: ‘If I’m an A– Clown… You, Sean, Are the Whole A– Circus’ (Video)

Jimmy Kimmel Fires Back at Hannity: ‘If I’m an A– Clown… You, Sean, Are the Whole A– Circus’ (Video)
Jimmy Kimmel had strong words for Sean Hannity on Thursday after the Fox News host slammed Kimmel and unleashed the conservative outrage machine on him.

On Wednesday night, Sean Hannity spent a portion of his show going after Jimmy Kimmel for what Kimmel said about Melania Trump on Monday. Kimmel made fun of Melania’s performance reading to children at the White House’s Easter Egg Roll — specifically her pronunciation of “this and that,” which sounded more like “dees and dat.”

“About dees and dat. Guillermo, you realize what this means?” Kimmel said to his sidekick Guillermo Rodriguez on Monday. “You could be first lady of the United States.”

On Wednesday, Hannity played that clip and referred to Kimmel as “a– clown Kimmel,” going off on a tirade about respect and how you shouldn’t make fun of the accent of an immigrant. And so Kimmel fired back on Thursday night.

“I woke up this morning, early. I did two hours of Pilates as I do every morning. I shampooed, I condished. And then I open my computer and find out I’m at war with Sean Hannity and Fox News. Who by the way I thought were my “and Friends,” Fox, but they are not, it turns out. Because there is nothing important going on in the country right now, Sean Hannity and his fellow Fox News ‘people’ spent a lot of time talking about me today,” Kimmel said, doing finger quotes when he said “people.”

After playing the clip of Hannity being outraged by his joke at Melania Trump’s expense, Kimmel came back with his own set of harsh owns for Hannity.

“This is the guy who defended the multiply-alleged pedophile Roy Moore,” Kimmel said. “And I’m a despicable disgrace. I’m the a– clown. Here’s the thing. If I’m an a– clown, and I might very well be, you, Sean, are the whole a– circus. You’re the juggler, you’re the trapeze artist, you are the a– lion tamer and the a– human cannonball all jammed into one little car. You are the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey of A– Clownsmanship.”

Kimmel also had to note the irony of Hannity getting mad at a joke about an immigrant, and how Hannity hasn’t been all that upset at certain others being allegedly disrespectful to Melania, like Donald Trump himself.

“But I do want to say, I appreciate how compassionate you’ve suddenly become to the plight of immigrants in this country over the last 24 hours. You know what I think is disrespectful to the First Lady? Cheating on her with a porn star after she has a baby. Why don’t you rant a little about that Sean Hannity?” Kimmel said.

You can watch Kimmel’s reply to Hannity in the video embedded at the top of this post.

NBC Executive Says A Friends Revival Will Never Happen

There’s never going to be a reboot or revival of Friends on NBC. Network TV is a competitive field where ratings are king. Just like how Hollywood’s recently become obsessed with reboots and remakes of beloved films, TV is heading in the same direction. There’ve been plenty of hits by adapting this strategy, but it’s likely only to become an even bigger focus now. ABC just launched their revival of Roseanne and drew in massive ratings that prompted the network to quickly renew the show for a bigger season 2.

What We Know About Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston's Apple TV Series

We must have done something good in a past life, because Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston are starring in a TV show together. After a "multiple-outlet bidding war," the series has officially found a home at Apple. And that's not even the best part! The untitled drama, which will reportedly "focus on a New York morning show," has also been picked up for two seasons, with 20 episodes overall.

After "creative differences" with House of Cards producer Jay Carson, Bates Motel's Kerry Ehrin will take over as showrunner, with Witherspoon, Aniston, and Steve Kloves serving as executive producers. Brian Stelter's book, Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV, will also play a small role in the writing. The series will mark the first time Aniston and Witherspoon - who are close friends Irl - have worked together since the Legally Blonde actress guest-starred on Friends as Rachel Green's sister Jill.
