‘Twin Peaks: The Return’ Emmy Fyc event: Kyle MacLachlan and Laura Dern ‘don’t know the answers to David Lynch’s worlds’ [Red Carpet Interviews]
Showtime brought prospective Emmy voters back to the strange world of “Twin Peaks” recently with an Emmy Fyc event for its revival, “The Return.” Gold Derby was on the red carpet at Paramount Studios in Hollywood to chat with stars Kyle MacLachlan and Laura Dern before a screening and Q&A, where they were joined by director David Lynch. Scroll down and click on the links at the bottom of this post to be taken to our complete interviews.

“Who killed Laura Palmer?” was the question on everyone’s lips when “Twin Peaks” originally premiered on ABC in the spring of 1990. With co-creator Mark Frost (“Hill Street Blues”), Lynch brought the surreal sensibilities of his films “Eraserhead” (1977) and “Blue Velvet” (1986) to the TV masses with the story of an FBI agent (MacLachlan) investigating the murder of a homecoming queen (Sheryl Lee) in a small Pacific Northwest town. The show was a success,

John Shaffner (‘Roseanne’ production designer): Highly-rated revival is ‘just like revisiting old family’ [Exclusive Video Interview]

John Shaffner (‘Roseanne’ production designer): Highly-rated revival is ‘just like revisiting old family’ [Exclusive Video Interview]
“You can’t underestimate how that story of working class America has resonated with the public,” says production designer John Shaffner about the success of the “Roseanne” revival. Before he read the first script for the reboot, which picks up 20 years after the original series ended, Shaffner thought, “Why are we bringing this show back? How is it going to be as good, how’s it going to be better?” But to his surprise the script was “on the right track,” and by the time of the first table reading with returning cast members Roseanne Barr, John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson, and Michael Fishman, “it was just like revisiting family.” Watch our exclusive video interview with Shaffner above.

Seth Rogen Admits He Knew About Stormy Daniels and Donald Trump’s Affair A Decade Ago

Seth Rogen Admits He Knew About Stormy Daniels and Donald Trump’s Affair A Decade Ago
During Stormy Daniels’ “60 Minutes” interview in which she described details of her affair with Donald Trump, the former adult film actress mentioned she had disclosed to multiple friends at the time her relationship with the current President. Seth Rogen appeared on “Ellen” to promote his upcoming “Hilarity for Charity” special on Netflix and ended up corroborating Daniels’ story during his visit.

Rogen explained that he was once friends with Daniels after she made brief appearances in “Knocked Up” and “The 40-Year-Old Virgin,” two movies directed by Judd Apatow that helped launch his career. The actor said Daniels did not hide her sexual encounter with Trump when asked if she had slept with anyone notable.

“I’ve known Stormy Daniels a long time and I’ll be honest — she may have mentioned some of this stuff around 10 years ago,” Rogen told Ellen. “At the time, when you ask a porn

Daytime Emmys 2018: Will ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ extend its record with an 11th victory for Best Talk Show?

Daytime Emmys 2018: Will ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ extend its record with an 11th victory for Best Talk Show?
When the 2018 Daytime Emmy nominations were announced on March 21 “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” was the top talk show with 11 bids. That may turn out to be a lucky number for the syndicated series as it’s looking for its 11th overall victory for Best Talk Show. That would extend the record it set last year when it won for the 10th time, surpassing the nine victories that “The Oprah Winfrey Show” racked up between 1987 and 1997 before Winfrey stopped submitting her series for consideration. But while “Ellen” has been a dominant force in daytime TV over the last 15 years, we’ve seen that it’s not unbeatable.

“Ellen” was indomitable early on, debuting in 2003 and winning Best Talk Show for its first four years in a row (2004-2007). But then the television academy split the category in two, distinguishing between entertainment shows like “Ellen” and informative shows like “The Doctors” and “The Chew.

Sarah Williams (“Becoming Jane”) is writing the series, which centers on “a strong-willed young woman on a Jamaican sugar plantation who goes from being a slave to the mother of a gentleman.”

No word on casting or when “The Long Song” will officially begin production, but Deadline hints that filming could start later this year. Oscars 2018: Greta Gerwig (‘Lady Bird’) would like to thank the academy, but Ellen DeGeneres plays her off [Watch]
“Oh God, doesn’t this feel like bad karma?” asked “Lady Bird” writer-director Greta Gerwig when Ellen DeGeneres invited her to practice her Oscar acceptance speech on February 12 on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” Gerwig didn’t want to tempt fate by trying out a speech on national television — Oscar voting doesn’t even start until February 22 — but DeGeneres assured her, “You’re actually manifesting it.” DeGeneres also agreed to whittle or macrame an Oscar for Gerwig just in case she’s jinxed by her premature speech, “so I guess I’m a winner either way.” But not two words into Gerwig’s speech DeGeneres started to play her off. Gerwig barely had time to thank the academy and her parents — she didn’t even get to Jesus. Watch above.

Gerwig is nominated twice this year: Best Director and Best Original Screenplay for her coming-of-age comedy about a teenage girl (Saoirse Ronan

How Pedro, 'Ellen,' 'Will & Grace' and other gay TV icons helped pave the way for gay marriage
Whether or not you agree with today's Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage(*), there can be no argument that this was a historic day in America. (*) And as a reminder, this blog is not the place to debate the merits of that ruling. In watching the news coverage of the decision, reading the official Court opinion and the four dissenting ones, it was hard not to think of the not insignificant role TV played in paving the way for this decision. This was a case that wound its way through the courts, just as the wave of state-level cases did over the last few years, and it involved lawyers and activists and politicians and judges. But it also involved changing attitudes across the country about gay people and same-sex relationships, and that's where pop culture in general and TV in particular come into play. TV shows come into our homes (and these days,

Inside Ellen’s Empire: How the Queen of Daytime Is Conquering Hollywood
When Ellen DeGeneres came out as gay in 1997, J.C. Penney dropped her faster than its prices during a blowout sale. Along with Chrysler and Wendy’s, the retailer succumbed to pressure from the American Family Association and Christian conservative groups, pulling ad dollars from her sitcom “Ellen.” Fast-forward 18 years, and DeGeneres has not only been hired as J.C. Penney’s spokeswoman (as well as American Express and CoverGirl), she’s managed to dance her way to the top of the TV industry, becoming one of Hollywood’s most powerful and likeable players. “From the outside, it probably appears like a spontaneous burst of.

Ellen DeGeneres To Host 86th Academy Awards

The Academy Awards organizers are really on the ball this year. Avoiding speculation, rumor and debate, they’ve gone ahead and announced the host for the 86th Academy Awards: Ellen DeGeneres.

Ellen DeGeneres has already hosted the Oscars once before, for the 79th Academy Awards back in 2006. That was the year The Departed won Best Picture, in case you wanted a reference point. She did quite well then and hopefully she’ll be on point now, seven years on.

The Academy Awards have seen a lot of ups and downs in recent ceremonies, from broadcasts that went far too long, musical numbers that went nowhere (or offended as many people as possible), and hosts that were less than award-worthy. I don’t think any of us will forget the disastrous co-hosts James Franco and Anne Hathaway any time soon. Bringing DeGeneres back will help to expand viewership – she has a
