When he finds out one of his students has a stammering problem, he decides to help her, and finds out that she is the only child of gangster Veljibhai. He meets with Veljibhai, discusses the gang-war scenario, then meets with Chhapan Tikle and gets the gangster to agree on a truce so that he can take Pooja and the rest of the students on a field trip to Bangalore. Trivia

Mahesh Bhatt had planned his 1993 gangster drama, Sir, with Sadashiv Amrapurkar playing the main baddie, Chhappan Tikli, and Gulshan Grover as his demented but dangerous younger brother, modeled on a character from The Godfather series. But just three days before the film was to roll, Sadashiv pointed out to Bhatt that in a crowd of 'serious' actors like Naseeruddin Shah, Paresh Rawal and him, a 'commercial' actor like Gulshan stood out and should be replaced. After the success of Sadak and his character Maharani, Sadashiv had begun to feel that Gulshan was not on par with the so-called talent quotient of the rest of the cast,Unaware of this, Gulshan had got himself clicked wearing his son's bermudas and came to Bhatt with the photographs wondering if he'd got the 'look' of his character right. He was told that he had been elevated in the cast and would be playing Chhappan Tikli. The younger mentally challenged brother was now turned into a woman's role and played by Sushmita Mukherjee, Sadashiv Amrapurkar was replaced due to his behavior. See more »

A Classic!
22 April 2013 | by namashi_1See all my reviews

Mahesh Bhatt's 'Sir' is amongst his finest films ever. The Performances are magnificent, The Screenplay is sharp & The Direction is just perfect. Need I Say More?

'Sir' tells the story of how a college teacher gets entangled in a brutal gang war.

'Sir' has strong merits, the narrative is highly superior & violent, as well. The Screenplay is sharp. Bhatt's Direction is just perfect. Music by Anu Malik is melodious.

Performance-Wise: Paresh Rawal is astounding. The versatile actor delivers a performance of a lifetime. To say that, he steals the show, would be an understatement. Gulshan Grover is another topper. He's incredible as the villain. Nasseruddin Shah is natural. Atul Agnihotri is very credible. Pooja Bhatt is remarkable. How one wishes if this talented performer had a longer career. Avtar Gill is in complete form.

On the whole, 'Sir' is a story worth watching.
