Trivia

The film could have ended with Lundy visiting Daniel at a mental hospital, to which he has been committed by the judge, and Lundy telling Daniel that he wants to make a children's television show about Mrs. Doubtfire, and he wants Daniel to star in it as Mrs. Doubtfire. See more »

Alternate Versions

The film was originally released to UK cinemas uncut with a 12 certificate. Since the 12 certificate prohibited entry to anyone under that age, regardless of the presence of a guardian, many cinema owners felt that they were missing out on a large potential audience, and a version was eventually passed PG, after the removal of 13 seconds of dialogue referring to "cunning linguistics", "horizontal mambo" and other crude mentions of sexual foreplay during the restaurant scene. All video, laserdisc and DVD versions released in the UK were similarly edited to secure the less restrictive rating. The uncut version was submitted to the BBFC in 2003, but they felt that having both cut- and uncut versions on the market together would confuse consumers, and so cuts were repeated. It was not until November 2012 when all cuts were fully waived by the BBFC, and a 12 certificate was given to the film. Their website outlines the history of the film in detail. See more »

Finally a Film to Fully Display Williams' Comedic Talents.
2 July 2002 | by tfrizzellSee all my reviews

Robin Williams stars as a divorcee who decides to see his children a lot more by posing as an elderly British woman in this smart and innovative comedy that works because of Williams' performance more than anything else. Sally Field is solid as the ex-wife and Pierce Brosnan is excellent as her new love interest. Great comedy that could be best described as a poor man's "Tootsie". 4 stars out of 5.
