The marks on Chance's face from getting hit by the porcupine change in nearly every shot, and at one point disappear all together, but are back in the next shot.

On the first night that the animals sleep in the forest, there are several shots of the moon at different phases on the same night.

In the kitchen scene when the pets are being fed, a Seal Point Siamese cat appears as Sassy. Seconds later, the correct breed - a Seal Point Himalayan - is shown.

When the animals are escaping the farm by jumping fence, Chance knocks over a garbage can. The next scene, the can is upright and Chance uses it to help the escape.

When Peter is saying goodbye to Shadow at Kate's ranch, the grass around Shadow changes between shots.

As the Mountain Lion is sneaking up on Shadow and Chance it is purring. Since Mountain Lions rely almost entirely on ambushing they do not purposefully make noise as this would alert the prey to its presence.

The brown (grizzly) bear Chance faces does not reproduce American black bear-cubs.

Chance has porcupine spines removed from his face while he's still conscious, even having several doctors hold him down. A vet in real life would have anesthetized Chance before going anywhere near the spines.

In dealing with the mountain lion, the see-saw plan would not have worked in real life. Chance jumps on the end of a rock to launch the mountain lion from the other side into a river. Trouble is, Chance likely doesn't weigh anywhere near enough as the mountain lion for this to work. And even if he did, the mountain lion goes flying, launched several feet into the air.

In one scene Sassy is offered a saucer of milk; although, cats are typically drawn to milk and other dairy products, many adult cats are lactose intolerant. Therefore, feeding cats any milk or cream isn't recommended.

The fire tower is obviously unoccupied in the wide-angle shot, even though the forest ranger is then shown to be pacing around inside the tower as he is conversing with Kate over his radio.

After Kate closes the gate on Chance, she says, "Frank will be by to feed you later," but her mouth isn't moving as she's saying it.

When Sassy shakes her head during mealtime at the kitchen of the woman temporarily watching the animals, a bell rings although no cat bell can be seen on her collar.

When Chance is eating Sassy's cat food at Miss Kate's house, it sounds like he's eating it out of a metal dish instead of a plastic dish.

When Kate finishes writing the note, she places it on the table, grabs her hat and leaves the barn (or shack). The door slams shut and the blast of air knocks the note off the table and onto the floor. Just for a brief second after the note has fallen, something that resembles a foot can be seen in the upper left-hand corner.

Grizzly bears are not found in the mountains of California.

Chance and Shadow refer to the mountain lion that's hunting them as a he but it's a female mountain lion because it doesn't have any hair so it's actually a she.
