- In this dramedy bordering on magical realism, young aspiring writer Seamus O'Neill moves to Key West, Florida to become the next Ernest Hemingway. There, he meets a cast of unusual characters. Chaucy Caldwell is an ambitious, rich, bigoted, right wing politician who's trying to take down the town's centrist gay mayor as well as the town's popular dolphin research institute. She's also dealing with her drinking problem. Sheriff Cody is the town's intense kooky sheriff obsessed with philosophy, spirituality, heroism - and Star Wars. Gumbo is the short-tempered Cajun owner of a popular and lively Tiki bar that's also a PG strip-club. JoJo is Seamus' Jamaican friend, who shows him around town. He also dabbles in voodoo. Hector Allegria is a tough, macho, local rich businessman who has trouble accepting his young mentally disabled son. Roosevelt 'King' Cole is the blind publisher of the papers Hemingway wrote for. Seamus idolizes him and does his best to impress him, but King believes in the tough love approach and although he sees true talent in Seamus and wants to help him, he just loves giving him hard time as well. Savannah Sumner is the local elite prostitute who everyone adores as a true sex goddess. She takes great pleasure in her work, seeing sex not as simple lust but as a form of important healing therapy and key to people's vitality. Her clients include teen virgins as well as Sara, a quadriplegic who wants Savannah to have sex with her caring husband pretending to be her. All these locals both inspire and trouble Seamus.
