Supergirl Visits The Oval Office In New Image From Season 4

With Smallville alumnus Sam Witwer having boarded Supergirl as season 4’s new big bad, Agent Liberty, it’s become more apparent how the coming year will be chock full of political and social allegory. In fact, it’s very much looking like the producers are aiming for the stars with this one because the Maiden of Might is doing more than just writing a letter to her local congressman – she’s paying a visit to the White House!

Actually, this makes a lot of sense, especially when you consider how Bruce Boxleitner, most known for his role in Babylon 5, has been hired to play Vice President Baker. From the sound of it, we’ll be seeing a lot of this guy, so don’t be surprised if he ends up taking the top job by replacing Lynda Carter’s Olivia Marsdin in the Oval Office. And considering how her character is secretly an alien,

Supergirl Season 4 Recasts Brent Spiner’s Major Character

Supergirl season 4 was set to add Star Trek: The Next Generation legend Brent Spiner to its line-up in the important recurring role of the Vice President of the United States. Unfortunately, though, Spiner’s had to step back from the part due to a family issue. And instead of rewriting scripts until the actor may become available again, Supergirl‘s production team has decided to just recast the role completely.

In place of Spiner, they’ve gone for another sci-fi icon from the 1990s. Bruce Boxleitner, most known for his role in Babylon 5, will be stepping into Spiner’s shoes to play Vice President Baker. Presumably, the character description released online a few weeks ago is still relevant, in which case Baker is set to be “adept and politically minded,” and “makes for an unlikely leader, but steps up in a big way when his country needs him most.

Bruce Boxleitner to replace Brent Spiner as Supergirl’s Vice President

A couple weeks ago it was reported that Star Trek: The Next Generation alum Brent Spiner would be joining The CW’s Supergirl as the Vice President of the United States. However, that is no longer the case as Tron and Babylon 5 star Bruce Boxleitner is set to replace Spiner on the upcoming season.

According to TVLine, Spiner had to step down from the role due to family issues that conflicted with production. Boxleitner was then cast in his place as Vice President Baker. VP Baker is described as “adept and politically minded” and “an unlikely leader who will nonetheless step up in a big way when his country needs him”. Former Wonder Woman star Lynda Carter portrayed the President Olivia Marsdin during Supergirl‘s second season, though it is unknown if Carter will return again for the fourth.

'Supergirl's' Brent Spiner Exits as Season 4 Role Recast With Bruce Boxleitner

Supergirl is doing a little reshuffling ahead of season four.

The CW's superhero drama previously announced that Brent Spiner had booked a recurring role in season four, playing the key role of Vice President Baker. However, scheduling issues have forced the Star Trek grad to depart the series in order to attend to a family matter that conflicts with the production dates.

Bruce Boxleitner (Tron, Babylon 5) will take over as Baker, who is described as adept and politically minded, an unlikely leader who steps up in a big way up when his country needs him most.

Harlan Ellison Remembered: "Walking Dead" Creator Robert Kirkman and Kevin Smith Pay Tribute to Science-Fiction Writer

Harlan Ellison Remembered:
Robert Kirkman and Kevin Smith have paid tribute to Harlan Ellison, recalling the influence that the legendary science fiction writer had on movies such as 'The Terminator.'

"Anyone working in genre stories can’t claim that they have no influence from Harlan Ellison," Kirkman, creator of comic book series "The Walking Dead," said to IMDb.

Ellison, who died on June 28 at 84 years old, wrote episodes of "The Twlight Zone," "The Outer Limits," and "Star Trek" among others.

Speaking to filmmaker Kevin Smith for IMDb, Kirkman said: "He touched every form of science fiction and everything orbiting that world. His contribution to the world can’t be underplayed. It’s something that all creative people hope for: Can I affect a genre, a medium in the way that someone like that does? He accomplished something monumental. It’s a tragic loss."

Smith recalled Ellison's episode of "The Outer Limits" from 1964 titled "Soldier," which led to a lawsuit against Orion Pictures after claims that 'The Terminator' drew ideas from the story. It was settled out of court and a credit was added.

"If you looked at a 'Terminator' VHS or watched in the theater when it came out, there was a credit that wasn't there that when you watched a LaserDisc later on. It said 'Acknowledgement to the works of Harlan Ellison'."

"I’m a fan. I know these things," Kirkman said.

Reflecting on how Ellison's name should be remembered, Smith said: "To genre enthusiasts of a certain age, [Ellison] is there constantly. To this next generation, maybe not as much.

"It’s up to people like us to say: "Hey, there was this great writer who laid a lot of track that other people traveled on for the rest of their careers.""

Ellison also acted as a conceptual consultant on "Babylon 5" and a creative consultant on the 1980s series of "The Twilight Zone" as well as writing the short story upon which post-apocalyptic feature "A Boy and His Dog" was based and the screenplay to 1966 drama feature "The Oscar."

Refresh for updates Fittingly, the reactions so far to the death of writer Harlan Ellison came mainly from the community that he was immersed in for most of his career – the science-fiction writers, filmmakers, critics, punks, artists and comic creators that worshipped him as a literary idol.

The comments were honest, sometimes brutally so, but mostly funny, capturing the irascible Ellison as someone who loved provoking the world as he moved through it.

Here are some reactions so far:

Harlan Ellison: There was no one quite like him in American letters, and never will be. Angry, funny, eloquent, hugely talented. If there's an afterlife, Harlan is already kicking ass and taking down names.

Harlan Ellison, whose work was credited with inspiring The Terminator, has passed away at the age of 84, it emerged today. The writer, whose novella A Boy And His Dog was adapted into a film with Don Johnson, was famous for writing five stories a day for many years, and infamous (but much loved) for his temper.

Ellison was also known for campaigning for the writes of screenwriters, whom he felt were not adequately recognised by the film industry in the light of how much they contribute. He lobbied for an increase in writers' pay and for proper acknowledgement for writers whose ideas were adapted into films.

A prolific writer for the small screen, Ellison contributed to the likes of Babylon 5, The Outer Limits and The Twilight Zone. He was born in Ohio but moved to Los Angeles at the age

Sense8: the series finale review – sci-fi love-in is strictly for the fans

After much online outcry, the Wachowskis’ cancelled show was given a feature-length reprieve in which to tie up loose ends and wallow in schmaltz

When Sense8, a sci-fi drama by Lana and Lilly Wachowski, the directors of The Matrix, and Babylon 5 creator J Michael Straczynski, was cancelled after two seasons, there were outpourings of grief and rage from its fans. Not just because there were unanswered questions, but mainly because they had come to love the show.

The premise – strangers around the globe become emotionally linked – was an intriguing one. Its characters are diverse and it explores identity, gender, sexuality and race. This is inclusive science fiction for a modern world; sci-fi with a heart. Well, it does the international sign for heart, anyway.
