Storyline

Romantic comedy about six of Seattle's young people, most of whom live in the same apartment building and whose lives revolve around the city's ever-expanding music scene. The inter-related stories about each character's progress through the singles scene are intriguing and often very funny, and the soundtrack is a grunge fanatic's dream, with the likes of Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and Mudhoney. 'Somewhere around 25, bizarre becomes immature'
27 February 2010 | by ChrysanthepopSee all my reviews

Being a fan of Cameron Crowe's films, I decided to give 'Singles' a shot. It clearly isn't among his best but it has its good moments. The humour is mostly dry but not all the jokes work. It needed more punchlines. Also, I thought there was too much focus on the Kyra Sedgwick- Campbell Scott romantic track, especially since Scott is a mediocre actor at best, while the other characters aren't given enough focus as a result of which they lack development. The film drags at some points and, having watched the DVD, I thought that the deleted scenes were interesting. Like with most of Crowe's films, the soundtrack is first rate. Kyra Sedgewick and Bridget Fonda are very good while Matt Dillon has a few shining moments. Sheila Kelley is hilarious while Jim True is wasted. His character seemed interesting and I wish the writers wrote more for it. I didn't mind the movie for a one time watch but Crowe has done better than this.
