Plot Summary

At the 1988 Winter Olympics at Calgary, we see Doug Dorsey battered in a vicious hockey game against West Germany. We then see Kate Moseley doing her program and falling when a lift goes bad. Both have fought all their life to get to the Olympics and suddenly the dream has been shattered. The movie then follows Kate, a tempermental but talented figure skater, through many partners until finally her coach resorts to recruiting a hockey player. Through the difficult training of 15 hours of skating a day they finally prepare for Nationals and the Olympics. A romance is budding and their final show could bend or break them as they try to achieve their dreams of an Olympic Gold medal. Written by Pat Delin

Trivia Moira Kelly and D.B. Sweeney made a deal with each other to not do a sequel without the other. They had been offered a script to a possible sequel, but Sweeney said the script was terrible and the money being offered was insultingly low. Since then, a direct-to-DVD sequel and two TV-movie sequels have been made without their involvement. See more »
Goofs It is mentioned in the movie that the Pamchenko is illegal, but the coach makes the comment "eh, legal/illegal..." and shakes his hand to indicate it depends on interpretation. The first component of the Pamchenko - the "bounce spin", where the man grasps the woman by the ankles and spins her around - is a highly illegal move in amateur and Olympic competition and is only performed by professionals and/or in exhibition skating due to the high risk of head injury.
