Trailer Watch: Cannes Film “Whitney” Presents Both Sides of an Incredible Talent

“Whitney”: Cannes

Whitney Houston’s family and friends describe her two sides in a new trailer for “Whitney.” The late singer was an iconic, amazingly gifted artist and performer, but she was also, as one of the doc’s interviewees puts it, “simple”: “She became Whitney Houston when it was time for her to get on stage,” she explains.

The divide between Houston the persona and Houston the person apparently weighed heavily on the six-time Grammy winner. “People think it’s so damn easy, and it’s not,” the “How Will I Know” songstress admits in archival footage.

Despite her personal turmoil, Houston’s beautiful voice and hard work cemented her a spot in music history. “You have three places to sing from: heart, mind, guts,” the singer’s mother, Cissy Houston, says in the trailer. “She learned them all.”

Lorde Apologizes for ''Poorly Chosen'' Whitney Houston Reference on Instagram

Lorde has a message for those offended by her recent Instagram post.  The 21-year-old pop singer sparked backlash on Thursday after referencing the late Whitney Houston in the caption for a photo of a bathtub. "And iiii will always love you," Lorde wrote, alluding to the 1992 song made famous by Houston and featured in The Bodyguard.  In 2012, Houston accidentally drowned in a hotel bathtub, the effects of atherosclerotic heart disease and cocaine use contributing to her tragic passing. Three years later, the legendary singer's daughter, Bobby Kristina Brown, died in a similar manner.  Lorde deleted the photo and ultimately issued the following...

Dude! It’s the 20th anniversary of The Big Lebowski!

Written and directed by the Joel and Ethan Coen (Fargo), The Big Lebowski blazed its way into theatres on March 6, 1998 after its premiere at the 1998 Sundance Film Festival. Shot on a budget of $15M, the classic stoner flick was originally considered a box office failure, but has since risen to the top of the crime comedy heap. It was even added to the U.S. National Film Registry, man!

Starring Jeff Bridges as The Dude, the Coen Brothers classic also hosts a killer supporting cast. Everyone from John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, Julianne Moore, and even the late Phillip Seymour Hoffman spark up hilarious performances over the course of a hopelessly convoluted plot. They really tie the film together, you know?

Well,

Christina Aguilera Strips Down in a Bathtub for a Steamy Nude Photoshoot
Even a dirrty girl needs to get clean sometimes.

Perhaps the photographs are a hint that the new album the 37-year-old promised fans was “coming” soon will have some similarities to her 2002 album Stripped.

Fans have been waiting for a new album from Aguilera for years, and in January the pop star promised via her Instagram Stories that,

Blu-ray Review: Threads Still Destroys

In 1984, a television movie played by the BBC scarred an entire generation. Directed by Mick Jackson (who went on to direct Chattahoochee, The Bodyguard, and Volcano) and written by Barry Hinds, Threads is a docudrama that portrayed the probable after-effects of a nuclear war. This includes the de-evolution of civilization, such as the loss of language, and the horrifying effects of fallout and nuclear winter. Threads stars Reece Dinsdale (Coronation Street), David Brierly (Doctor Who) and Karen Meagher in her debut, as the hapless, working-class Sheffield, England residents who must deal with the nightmare that is nuclear war. Performances are so real that you forget you're watching fiction, which is surely the point in a film like this. A great deal of research with consulting scientists such as Carl Sagan...
