Step Aside, MCU: Here’s All the DC Universe Content You Can Stream on HBO Max
With the release of Superman in 1978, DC Comics broke ground and practically invented the blockbuster genre of superhero films. Decades later, with dozens of animated movies, live-action shows, and a new ensemble-led Dceu (DC Extended Universe) film series set to rival Marvel, the expansive franchises have finally found their permanent home on HBO Max.

DC Universe, the former platform for Dceu content, was rebranded as DC Universe Infinite by WarnerMedia in January 2021, with a sole focus on a library of more than 24,000 comic books. HBO Max will become the exclusive streaming platform for DC content,

Editorial: Gothic Romance – Why Batman: Mask Of The Phantasm is the Ultimate Horror Noir Comic Book Movie
It’s hard to believe that prior to the mid-’80s when Frank Miller, got his evil genius hands on the Dark Knight with the landmark graphic novel, The Dark Knight Returns, the figure of Batman was defined by the kitschy ’60s TV show starring Adam West and the bright and sunny pages of Bob Kane’s original Detective Comics. Released in 1986, The Dark Knight Returns cast Batman as a moody, bitter, aging caped crusader: a musclebound vigilante who spends his nights crashing a tank through the grimy streets of a Gotham that closely resembled the rain-soaked, gothic aesthetic of Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner (1982).

From this point on in comics, television, cinema, and the general public consciousness, Batman was forever reinvented as a brooding, tragic, gothic figure who often occupied the thin line between hero and anti-hero. When Tim Burton was handed the reins for Batman’s first real foray into cinema,

Michelle Pfeiffer Said No to The Silence of the Lambs Because It Was Too Evil

Michelle Pfeiffer Said No to The Silence of the Lambs Because It Was Too Evil
Michelle Pfeiffer says she turned down Silence of the Lambs because it was "too evil." Director Jonathan Demme wanted her to star as Clarice Starling, but Pfeiffer wasn't interested. Jodie Foster ended up taking on the role instead, which earned her an Academy Award. Pfeiffer and Demme had previously worked on Married to the Mob together and the actress regrets not getting a second chance to work with the director again. Demme passed away in 2017 from complications from esophageal cancer and heart disease.

The Silence of the Lambs isn't exactly an uplifting story. The movie, and its source material, Thomas Harris' novel of the same name, tells the story of a young FBI agent tracking a serial killer who skins his female victims. When Michelle Pfeiffer read the script, she found it to be a bit too much for her to take on. She explains.

"With The Silence of the Lambs,

Michelle Pfeiffer Remembers Turning Down ‘Silence of the Lambs’ Because It Was Too Evil

Michelle Pfeiffer Remembers Turning Down ‘Silence of the Lambs’ Because It Was Too Evil
Michelle Pfeiffer’s career hit a breakthrough in 1988 when she starred in Stephen Frears’ “Dangerous Liaisons” and Jonathan Demme’s “Married to the Mob.” The former title earned her an Oscar nomination, the first of her career, while the latter impressed the likes of Martin Scorsese and would help her land other career-defining roles, such as “The Age of Innocence.” Working with Demme proved so successful that Pfeiffer was offered the lead role in the filmmaker’s follow-up project, “The Silence of the Lambs.” As the actress recently told The New Yorker, she turned down “Lambs” because it was evil to the point of making her uncomfortable.

“With ‘Silence of the Lambs,’ I was trepidatious,” Pfeiffer said. “There was such evil in that film. The thing I most regret is missing the opportunity to do another film with Jonathan [Demme]. It was that evil won in the end, that at the

HBO Max New Releases: February 2021

HBO Max New Releases: February 2021
When it released Wonder Woman 1984 to its HBO Max servers in December, WarnerMedia made it abundantly clear that it was ready for a new era of movie distribution. Now, in its list of new releases for February 2021, Warner is attempting another grand experiment for HBO Max.

Judas and the Black Messiah premieres on HBO Max this Feb. 12 and is by every indication the kind of film that awards shows go gaga over. Both Daniel Kaluuya and and Lakeith Stanfield look to be at the top of their respective games in this story about Black Panther Party chairman Fred Hampton and the FBI that wants to take him down. Will this have the same rhetorical oomph on the small screen? Guess we’ll find out!

Michelle Pfeiffer Would Return as Catwoman in The Flash Movie, But No One's Asked Yet
The Flash has quickly emerged as one of DC's most intriguing big screen projects. The news that Michael Keaton would be reprising the role of Batman all these years later for The Flash sent fans into a frenzy, with many wondering whether any other characters from the Keaton/Tim Burton Batman era would be making an appearance. Well, according to Michelle Pfeiffer, she would jump at the chance to bring back her iteration of Catwoman...if only they'd ask.

"I would if anyone asked me but no one's asked me yet."

When asked whether she had been offered a role in The Flash, the actress declared her want to return to the role alongside Keaton, but she has yet to get that phone call. Unless of course, she is just playing coy...

Michelle Pfeiffer: A look back at her three Oscar-nominated performances

Michelle Pfeiffer: A look back at her three Oscar-nominated performances
As with Jessica Lange, who recovered from her big screen debut in the flop remake of “King Kong” to become an awards darling, Michelle Pfeiffer has made us forget her first starring role in the tepid “Grease 2” in 1982. The following year she was paired with Al Pacino in the blockbuster crime drama “Scarface.” In the nearly four decades since, she has co-starred with some of the biggest names in Hollywood in such hits as “The Witches of Eastwick,” “Married to the Mob,” “Tequila Sunrise,” “The Russia House,” “Batman Returns,” “Dangerous Minds,” “Up Close & Personal,” “One Fine Day” and “What Lies Beneath.”

Oscar buzz is building for her critically acclaimed performance in the upcoming Sony Pictures Classics release “French Exit” (due out February 12). That got has us reminiscing about her trio of previous bids. Let’s take a look back at Pfeiffer’s first three Oscar-nominated performances.

The Flash: Michelle Pfeiffer would play Catwoman again if asked
Michelle Pfeiffer is ready to meow and do some licking, but it is all dependent on whether Andy Muschietti and the team behind The Flash are going to ask. Pfeiffer played the feline femme fatale in 1992's Batman Returns alongside Michael Keaton and Danny DeVito. Her portrayal of the vivacious villainess is the stuff of legend among the Bat-fans, and I…

How Batman & Robin Bombing Helped George Clooney Become Better at His Job

How Batman & Robin Bombing Helped George Clooney Become Better at His Job
Uneasy lies the head that wears the Batman cowl. While Christian Bale and Micheal Keaton came out of the experience of playing the Dark Knight relatively unscathed, other actors, from Adam West to George Clooney, to Ben Affleck have struggled due to their time spent portraying the Caped Crusader. In a new interview, Clooney explained that the terrible reception to his movie Batman & Robin, while hurtful, led him to a better career as an actor by forcing him to focus on doing films with good scripts.

"I'd gotten killed for doing Batman & Robin and I understood for the first time - because quite honestly when I got Batman & Robin I was just an actor getting an acting job and I was excited to play Batman - what I realized after that was that I was going to be held responsible for the movie itself not just my

Is Danny DeVito Returning as Penguin in The Flash Movie?
The comic book movie franchise seems to be moving in something of an unexpected direction, with both Marvel and DC looking to introduce the idea of a multiverse. Now, salt at the ready, but It's looking increasingly likely that the latter are doing this through The Flash movie, and with Michael Keaton's version of Batman all-but confirmed to return, a new rumor suggests that Batman Returns' Danny DeVito is now being courted to resurrect his version of Oswald Cobblepot Aka The Penguin.

WB Reportedly Wants Danny DeVito’s Penguin To Cameo In The Flash

WB Reportedly Wants Danny DeVito’s Penguin To Cameo In The Flash
It’s been a while since we’ve heard a wild casting rumor about The Flash, which is to be expected when the Dceu discourse has been dominated for months by the impending debut of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and more recently the surprisingly polarized reactions to Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 1984.

In fact, the cast has only gotten lighter, with Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson apparently rewriting her script to remove Ray Fisher’s Cyborg entirely after the actor made it clear that he has no intention of reprising the role as long as DC Films chief Walter Hamada is still around. That being said, recent reports have said the part may be recast instead, so we’ll have to wait and see what happens.

Michelle Pfeiffer’s Hypnotic ‘French’ Connection

Michelle Pfeiffer’s Hypnotic ‘French’ Connection
In a 1991 essay, John Gregory Dunne said male stars are allowed to age gracefully onscreen, unlike females: “Men grow older; women grow old.” In general, he’s right: Acting has always been a difficult profession, especially for women over 35.

Dunne (1932-2003) unfortunately didn’t live long enough to see this year’s notable work by actresses over 50. That list includes Candice Bergen, Ellen Burstyn, Glenn Close, Gong Li, Laura Linney, Sophia Loren, Frances McDormand, Julianne Moore and Meryl Streep.

The list also includes Michelle Pfeiffer, who looks more beautiful than ever and gives one of her best performances in Sony Classics’ “French Exit.” She has not grown old or older — she’s grown deeper.

Variety first mentioned her in January 1979, when she was 14th billed in ABC’s “Delta House,” an “Animal House” knockoff. She landed another short-lived series, “B.A.D. Cats,” and had guest roles in “CHiPs,” “Fantasy Island,” “Enos

‘Blizzard of Souls’ Review: A Teenage Rifleman Comes of Age in Latvian Oscar Submission

‘Blizzard of Souls’ Review: A Teenage Rifleman Comes of Age in Latvian Oscar Submission
A naïve teenager comes of age amid the carnage of World War I’s Eastern Front in this propulsive adaptation of Aleksandrs Grins’ 1934 patriotic classic “Blizzard of Souls.” With its muscular direction by former documentarian Dzintars Dreibergs, atmospheric cinematography and careful attention to period detail, this account of a troop of Latvian Riflemen fighting first for the Russian Imperial Army against invading German forces and then for an independent Latvia should appeal to WWI buffs and fans of Sam Mendes’ “1917.” While not quite in the same league as Liviu Ciulei’s “Forest of the Hanged” or Stanley Kubrick’s “Paths of Glory,” Latvia’s Oscar submission — which set box office records in its native country — does contain a strong message about the futility of war.

After German forces kill his mother on the family farm, the not-quite-17-year-old schoolboy Arturs and his aging father (Martins Vilsons), a sharp-shooting former sergeant,

Is Michael Keaton the New Dceu Batman?

Is Michael Keaton the New Dceu Batman?
Just who is under the Batman’s mask? It’s a question that’s bedeviled many a Gotham City villain, and it also appears poised to tax even the most loyal Dceu fan going forward, with a recent clarification on a New York Times report appearing to suggest Michael Keaton’s reprise of the Dark Knight in The Flash is more than a one-off.

Indeed, Times reporter Brooks Barnes generated additional news over the weekend when he elaborated on a profile piece he filed last month. In the earlier report, DC Films head Walter Hamada revealed DC is embracing a full-throated vision of the multiverse, with Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman cited as occupying what Hamada described as “Earth 1,” and Robert Pattinson’s upcoming interpretation of Bruce Wayne in Matt Reeves’ The Batman existing in “Earth 2.” Presumably this means “Earth 1” is the Dceu since Gadot previously starred opposite Ben Affleck

Iron Man 3 Trends As Fans Celebrate The McU’s Christmas Movie

Iron Man 3 Trends As Fans Celebrate The McU’s Christmas Movie
Anyone that’s ever seen a movie where Shane Black is credited knows that the writer and director is a huge fan of Christmas, dating back to his very first script. Lethal Weapon is held up alongside Die Hard and Batman Returns as an alternative festive favorite, although he abandoned the majority of the holiday iconography for his last effort The Predator.

The Last Boy Scout, The Long Kiss Goodnight, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and The Nice Guys all feature references to the most wonderful time of year, though, so much so that people would be shocked if Shane Black lent his name to anything that didn’t feature at least one Christmas element. So when he signed on to direct the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Iron Man 3, it was a given that Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark would indulge in some holiday shenanigans.

Of course, the threequel
