Sky Adds ‘Outdated Attitudes’ Disclaimer for ‘Jungle Book,’ ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’

Sky Adds ‘Outdated Attitudes’ Disclaimer for ‘Jungle Book,’ ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’
Sky, the Comcast-backed pay-tv broadcaster in the U.K., has added “outdated attitudes” disclaimers to a batch of films, including the original animated “Jungle Book,” “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” and “The Last Samurai.”

Upon searching for Disney’s “The Jungle Book” on movie service Sky Cinema, a description now reads, “This film has outdated attitudes, language and cultural depictions which may cause offence today.” The same warning has been applied to Jon Favreau’s 2016 re-imagining of the classic movie.

A check of nascent streamer Disney Plus, whose content is also available on Sky under the companies’ output deal, shows that that service already makes clear that films such as the original “Jungle Book” “contains outdated cultural depictions.” As previously reported, Disney had the warnings in place around the 2019 launch of the streamer.

Altogether, some 16 films on Sky Cinema now have an attached disclaimer, including Disney’s 1941 animated film “Dumbo;” kids

New trailer for ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ promises a jolly sequel while ‘Aladdin’ teases without a Genie

New trailer for ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ promises a jolly sequel while ‘Aladdin’ teases without a Genie
New views of two of the Magic Kingdom’s highly anticipated film remakes just blew into town. Not only did the full-length “Mary Poppins Returns” trailer starring Emily Blunt as the practically perfect nanny just drop months before its arrival on Dec. 19, but Disney also unleashed an early taste for its upcoming live-action “Aladdin.”

As Ms. Poppins would say, everything seems spit spot with this spoonful of eye candy directed by Rob Marshall of “Into the Woods” and “Chicago” fame, from the tux-wearing penguin waiter to the carousel horses that come to life. But all is not well 20 years hence from when Mary last paid a visit to the Banks children. The Depression has settled in and the now-adult Michael (Ben Whishaw), apparently a widower with three small children, and Jane (Emily Mortimer) fear they might lose their home on Cherry Tree Lane. The fortuitous arrival of their childhood caretaker

Nickelodeon’s ‘Blue’s Clues’ Reboot Gets New Host & New Title

Nickelodeon’s Blue’s Clues reboot has a host and a new title. TV newcomer and Broadway actor Joshua Dela Cruz will lead a new generation of preschoolers in the search for clues with the beloved energetic girl puppy blue on Blue’s Clues & You (fka Blue’s Clues). Production begins this month in Toronto.

The network announced in March that it was bringing back the animated preschool classic with a 20-episode series order that would have a “refreshed signature look.”

In Blue’s Clues & You, puppy Blue invites viewers to join her and live action host Dela Cruz on a clue-led adventure and solve a daily puzzle. With each signature paw print, Blue identifies clues in her animated world that propel the story and inspires viewers to interact with the action.

The casting of Dela Cruz was the result of an opening casting call that began last April in Southern California.

Egot club welcomes 3 more: John Legend, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice (‘Jesus Christ Superstar’) win at Creative Arts Emmys
Three more people just joined the exclusive Egot club. John Legend, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, producers of NBC’s production of “Jesus Christ Superstar,” won for Best Variety Special (Live) Sunday at the Creative Arts Emmys in downtown Los Angeles.

Only 12 entertainers in Hollywood history had won Egot prior to Sunday: the showbiz grand slam of Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Awards. Adding three additional to an already small group is a very big deal. The dozen already achieving Egot are (in chronological order of achievement): composer Richard Rodgers, actress Helen Hayes, actress Rita Moreno, actor John Gielgud, actress Audrey Hepburn, composer Marvin Hamlisch, orchestrator Jonathan Tunick, writer/director/composer Mel Brooks, director Mike Nichols, actress Whoopi Goldberg, producer Scott Rudin, and composer Robert Lopez.

The trio clinched the “E” in the coveted Egot title for Outstanding Variety Special (Live) for producing Fox’s live version of Lloyd Webber and Rice’s 1970 rock opera about Jesus’ final days, beating out other nominees including the Golden Globes and Oscars.

Legend won a Tony Award last year for co-producing the play, “Jitney,” an Oscar for his song, “Glory,” in 2014’s “Selma,” and, well, we don’t even have to explain his illustrious Grammy-gilded music career. He won Best New Artist back in 2005, his very first tread into Egot territory.

How Will Edgier FX Shows Like ‘Mayans Mc’ Fit Inside Disney’s ‘Family-Friendly’ Brand?

How Will Edgier FX Shows Like ‘Mayans Mc’ Fit Inside Disney’s ‘Family-Friendly’ Brand?
Can a biker gang and Mickey Mouse get along?

Tuesday night, FX debuts its newest drama, “Mayans M.C.,” a spinoff of Kurt Sutter’s hard-edged biker drama “Sons of Anarchy.” While “Mayans” should fit snugly alongside fellow FX series like “Fargo,” “American Horror Story” and “Legion,” the network is about to become part of Disney’s $71.3 billion acquisition of 21st Century Fox’s film and TV assets.

The merger, which should close early next year, will put FX under the same corporate umbrella as Disney’s family-friendly fare like “Aladdin” and “Toy Story.” “You can’t put the FX and the Disney brands together,” John Landgraf, CEO of FX Networks and FX Productions, told TheWrap during the Television Critics Association press tour this summer. “Disney’s the best family brand on the planet, but FX is not a family brand.”

Disney's Little Mermaid Remake Targets Mary Poppins 2 Director
It looks like Disney's live-action version of The Little Mermaid may finally be gaining some real traction. The project has been in some form of development for some time now, but it appears the studio is much more serious about actually getting the movie made, as they've set their sights on a director. Rob Marshall (Chicago, Into the Woods) is said to be Disney's top choice for the job and has been offered the movie.

According to a new report, Rob Marshall is currently reviewing the script, which was written by Jane Goldman. That is also a new reveal, as it previously wasn't known who had worked on the latest draft. Goldman has written quite a few big hits over the years, such as X-Men: First Class, the Kingsman movies and Kick-Ass, just to name a few. As for Marshall, he most recently directed Mary Poppins Returns for Disney, which

Disney eyeing Rob Marshall to direct The Little Mermaid

As Disney continues to adapt many of its classic animated films, Deadline reports that the studio is eyeing Rob Marshall to direct the live-action The Little Mermaid. Marshall has reportedly been offered the director’s chair and will decide after the holidays.

This won’t be the first time Marshall will have worked for Disney if he accepts. He has just come off directing Mary Poppins Returns, starring Emily Blunt as the famous English nanny. He also directed Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, a film which earned Disney over $1 billion at the box office in 2011, as well as 2014’s Into the Woods.

The Little Mermaid will be produced by Lin-Manuel Miranda (Broadway’s Hamilton), who also worked with Marshall on Mary Poppins Returns, and Marc Platt. Miranda will also write new songs for the film with Little Mermaid‘s original song writer and composer Alan Menken.
