Sex & Nudity

  • It is a very odd and surreal performance, with a lot of full frontal nudity of men and women, as well as graphic sexual content.
  • A woman loses her virginity, and we see the bloody and sexually explicit aftermath.
  • One animated scene of a bull copulating with a woman.
  • A very graphic scene of Caliban masturbating.
  • Very explicit and close-up shot of a woman's vagina while she is giving birth.
  • Barely an image on screen goes by without somebody being nude. The nudity includes full nudity of females and males, from young to old.
  • One brief albeit graphic scene of Stephano fantasizing about raping Miranda

Violence & Gore

  • One bloody image of Claribel being losing her virginity. Very bloody and sexually explicit.
  • A very explicit (though brief) depiction of childbirth. Very bloody.
  • Little violence, but several extremely gory scenes showing the aftermath of violence, including one with a man's throat cut.
  • One scene illustrating Vesalius' "Anatomy", showing the dissection of a corpse; and a pregnant woman as if dissected, with her womb and the fetus exposed.

Profanity

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • One brief scene of comic drunkenness.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • This is a very surreal and disturbing approach to Shakespeare's play. Very frightening and difficult to follow unless you are already very familiar with the play.
