Trivia

This was the last movie produced by TriStar Pictures before they merged with Columbia Pictures, which was going through similar financial difficulties. Because the film lost so much money, Sony had to salvage TriStar by purchasing its remaining stock, and by reorganizing said company as part of the recently-formed Sony Pictures Entertainment. One memorable headline summed up the incident: "HAWK cooks Tri-Star's goose". As with United Artists when they were bought out by MGM, Columbia and Tri-Star were allowed to keep their own logos, and to continue making movies under their own names. See more »

Goofs

After Hawk is confronted by George Kaplan, his notebook is lifted by the henchwoman. She reads the list of items including 100 stamps. The next scene has Hawk riding the mail train to the Vatican. Ignoring the visible stamps on the side of the carton, there are at least 209 stamps on the top of the same carton. See more »

Narrator: Long ago, the Duke of Milan commissioned a little known artist to erect a Mammoth statue of a horse. The time was 1481... The artist was Leonardo da Vinci... The guy on the donkey's just a guy on a donkey.

Alternate Versions

Entire subplot of Eddie's dead pet monkey Little Eddie. Eddie puts a photo of the monkey on Kaplan's head and throws him off the castle; the photo is still visible in the final cut just as he goes over the cliff on the limo. See more »

I laugh, I cry every time
16 February 2005 | by mattspammailSee all my reviews

I have watched this flick at least 30 times. I can recite it almost verbatim.

I also realize that I am relatively alone in my feelings for this movie. My wife reminds me of that all the time.

The humor in this flick probably doesn't appeal to most people, because they like to be spoon-fed humor. Slapstick and punny humor is far too refined for most.

I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for (this movie).

P.S. The director's commentary on the DVD is great if you're a fan of the film.
