In Conversation With Harvey Weinstein’s Former Assistant, Rowena Chiu, Who Is Breaking Her Nda For This Interview
Rowena Chiu claims Harvey Weinstein attempted to rape her on a business trip in 1998. She had only met Weinstein two times and had begun working as a new assistant at Miramax, just one month prior to the Venice Film Festival when the alleged incident occurred. During a late-night meeting to discuss film productions and scripts, Chiu says she declined Weinstein’s request for massages, before the producer pushed her up against the bed and took off her tights. Chiu managed to escape the room, but the lasting effects of the incident never went away.

More than 20 years later, Weinstein — who is serving a 23-year sentence in New York state prison after being convicted on two charges of rape in the third degree and a criminal sex act — still denies the attack ever happened.

“I’m breaking my Nda right now,” Chiu tells Variety in an exclusive interview, conducted over the

‘There Is No Evil’ Review: A Brilliant Look at Iranians Who Serve as Executioners and Those Who Refuse

‘There Is No Evil’ Review: A Brilliant Look at Iranians Who Serve as Executioners and Those Who Refuse
There Is No Evil” spends 30 minutes establishing its premise, and another two hours taking it in surprising new directions. Iranian director Mohammad Rasoulof’s unfolds across four stories about military men tasked with executions as they grapple with their options, contend with the fallout, and witness the impact it has on the people closest to them.

Rasoulof, who has been barred from leaving his country since 2017, has made an absorbing ride defined by the paradoxes of its people. Nobody in “There Is No Evil” has it easy: There’s no simple moral code when every possible option leads to a point of no return.

The four stories that comprise “There Is No Evil” involve a range of diverse men and women enmeshed in various hardships impacted by the executions their jobs demand of them. Some of them do it, some of them refuse, but they’re all trapped by the same troublesome quandary.

‘There Is No Evil’: Film Review

‘There Is No Evil’: Film Review
In Iran, executions are often carried out by conscripted soldiers, which puts an enormous burden on the shoulders of ordinary citizens. And what are we to make of the condemned, for whom guilt can sometimes be a capricious thing, dictated by a severe and oppressive Islamic regime — the same one that accused Iranian director Mohammad Rasoulof of “endangering national security” and “spreading propaganda” against the government?

When Rasoulof returned from Cannes in 2017, following the premiere of his film “A Man of Integrity,” he was banned from filmmaking for life and sentenced to a year in prison. But as a man of integrity himself, the director could not stop. His latest film, “There Is No Evil,” premiered in competition at the Berlin Film Festival, where instead of being silenced, the government put on him.

The resulting feat of artistic dissidence runs two and a half hours, comprising four discrete chapters, each

Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 6 Episode 14 Review: Ticking Clocks

Brooklyn Nine-Nine switches things up yet again with a real-time episode. Read our review!

This Brooklyn Nine-Nine review contains spoilers.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 6 Episode 14

Mama Maglione! Once again, Brooklyn Nine-Nine has offered a new twist on their tried and true formula with great success, this time taking the 24 approach and showing an investigation in real-time. Honestly, it’s surprising that the real-time case concept hadn’t already been done by this show, but it’s another welcome off-format episode that gives the entire cast the ability to share one story.

Even though all of our main characters are involved in the search for a hacker looking to expose NYPD’s undercover files, it still allows tiny B-plots, like Terry and Boyle dealing with mean sorority girls and Hitchcock and Scully’s quest for the perfect side dish for their microwavable lasagna, to pop up. The most successful of these is

‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Recap: Code Red

‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Recap: Code Red
A review of “Tickling Clocks,” this week’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine, coming up just as soon as I find out about the hot goss…

“Tickling Clocks,” a frantic hunt for a precinct hacker that plays out in real time, is the fifth out of 14 episodes so far in Season Six to notably shift the series’ usual tone or structure. That’s following “Four Movements” (Gina says goodbye to everyone in very different ways), “The Crime Scene” (Jake and Rosa spend weeks obsessing over an unsolvable case), “He Said, She Said” (Amy

‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Review: ‘He Said, She Said’ Shows Progress For Comedies Talking #MeToo

‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Review: ‘He Said, She Said’ Shows Progress For Comedies Talking #MeToo
[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers for “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” Season 6 Episode 8, “He Said, She Said.”]

While the #MeToo era is, at this point, well-established, many TV shows are still trying to figure out the best ways to address the issues raised — and also, for comedies, be funny at the same time. Given that “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” has already tackled issues like racial profiling, Lgbtq issues, and police corruption, the machinery was in place to delve into sensitive topics, and so this week’s episode, “He Said, She Said,” was able to take it on head-first.

The episode, marking the directorial debut of series star Stephanie Beatriz, doesn’t start off as a story about subtleties — the Nine-Nine is called to investigate an incident at a “Wolf of Wall Street”-esque firm where a broker ended up with a broken penis. He says his female co-worker “flipped out”; she says he was trying to assault her and she retaliated.

‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Takes on #MeToo With Empathy — and Actual Jokes (Column)

‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Takes on #MeToo With Empathy — and Actual Jokes (Column)
It was only a matter of time before the #MeToo movement emerged from behind the scenes to our screens. In fact, so many in and out of Hollywood are grappling with a seismic cultural shift surrounding sexual violence — or, at the very least, a new urgency to meaningfully address it — that it might have felt disingenuous if TV and film hadn’t acknowledged it somehow.

For the most part, TV’s takes on #MeToo have been limited to dramas that have leaned into the weighty gravitas of this reckoning. Shows like “The Good Fight” and “The Romonoffs” weighed the rights of the accusers and accused, to varying degrees of success. Comedies that dip their toes into the murky waters — including “Glow” and the “Murphy Brown” revival — tend to drop the punchlines in order to focus on the severity of the incidents, letting the stark contrast to their usual rhythms speak volumes.

‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Recap: Policing the Patriarchy

‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Recap: Policing the Patriarchy
A review of “He Said, She Said,” this week’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine, coming up just as soon as I say aloud to other men that Kathryn Bigelow should direct the next Star Wars…

“He Said, She Said,” the directorial debut of cast member Stephanie Beatriz, fits into a noble but imperfect Brooklyn Nine-Nine tradition of trying to mix serious social commentary with the series’ trademark goofiness. This time, the topic is #MeToo, as Jake and Amy‘s investigation of a sexual assault charge at an investment bank turns into a

The following contains spoilers from Thursday’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine‘s Amy Santiago came forward with her own #MeToo story during Thursday’s very special episode, directed by series star Stephanie Beatriz.

In “He Said, She Said,” the sergeant (played by Melissa Fumero) revealed to Jake (Andy Samberg) that her former captain at the Six-Four crossed a line when she was just a rookie. “He helped me get on the detective track, and he gave me all the best cases,” she said. “When I finally made detective, he took me out to dinner and tried to kiss me. Older people don't rely on emotional expressions to judge partner's feelings!
Washington, Sep 11: Older adults have the ability to make accurate judgments about their partner's emotions using their acquired knowledge and not their sensory cues, a new study has revealed.

Lead researcher Antje Rauers of the Max Planck Institute for Human Development in Germany, said that when judging others' emotions in real life, people do not exclusively rely on emotional expressions.

She said that instead, they use additional information, such as accumulated knowledge about a given situation and a particular person."

To investigate how these two processes vary with age, Rauers and colleagues Elisabeth Blanke.

Newlywed Wife Pushes Husband Off Cliff 8 Days After Wedding: Authorities
A newlywed wife with doubts about her 8-day-old marriage confessed she pushed her husband face-first off a cliff in Glacier National Park, then lied about his death and told authorities he had driven off with friends, court documents said. Federal prosecutors have given their version of what happened to Cody Lee Johnson, 25, two months after his body was found in an area of the park so steep and rugged that a helicopter had to be used in the recovery.
