Kimberly Williams and George Newbern were filmed in a series of Hallmark Card commercials as a couple.
Tom Irish plays the same character, Ben Banks, in both the 1950 and the 1991 versions of "Father of the Bride".
Actor Eugene Levy appears in both this movie and Father of the Bride Part II (1995), but as different characters in each one.
George's middle name, Stanley, is named after Spencer Tracy's character in the original Father of the Bride (1950).
Tom Irish made his film debut in the 1950 version, Father of the Bride (1950); in this version he made his last film appearance.
Steve Martin's character of George Banks was named after David Tomlinson's character of the same name in Mary Poppins (1964).
Among the wedding gifts Annie receives is a Venus de Milo statue with a clock in the stomach. In the original Father of the Bride (1950), Kay also receives this as one of her wedding gifts. Both look at it with disdain.
George Banks says that he doesn't want the wedding to bankrupt him so he'll end up wandering the streets in a bathrobe. This happens to Steve Martin's character in The Jerk (1979).

In the scene where George and Nina Banks are eliminating who will be invited to the wedding, among the names they mention are Steve and Stephanie Tyrell. Steve Tyrell did the several of the songs in this film and also in the sequel, Father of the Bride Part 2.
Annie (played by Kimberly Williams-Paisley) reacts in horror at her father's suggestion of a barbecue/picnic wedding reception, opting instead for a more elegant event. In real life, Kimberly's wedding reception was much more casual than that of Annie's, it actually was more of a down-home barbecue picnic. The actress married country singer Brad Paisley in 2003, about twelve years after the release of this film.
Phoebe Cates was offered the role of Annie Banks, but had to decline it because of her pregnancy.
Diane Keaton directed an episode of Twin Peaks (1990), which featured Russ Tamblyn, who appeared in the original Father of the Bride (1950). It also featured Miguel Ferrer, whose father, Jose Ferrer, beat out Spencer Tracy for the Best Actor award.

In the original Father of the Bride (1950), the name of the bride (Elizabeth Taylor) was Kay. Diane Keaton previously appeared in The Godfather (1972), in which her character, also named Kay, is introduced at an at-home wedding reception.

Spencer Tracy was nominated for Best Actor for his role in the original Father of the Bride (1950), but lost to Jose Ferrer for Cyrano de Bergerac (1950). Steve Martin later created his own version of Cyrano, Roxanne (1987).

Traditionally, the first dance between the bride and groom is alone on the dancefloor. Bryan & Annie's first dance is on the floor with all the other guests. Also the wedding reception lacked a father - daughter dance. Probably because George was out moving 200 cars off the street.
