A seemingly harmless telephone service endows an evil teacher with powers from beyond the grave
Some seem to find this movie better then the original. I disagree. Although the original was loaded with problems, most of the material ended up working together as a fierce, dark comedy with director Robert Englund himself. This time around, we do not have a bullied teen going around battering his enemies apart, and condemning their souls to hell. Instead, this time around, we have a corrupt, creepy teacher who is behind bars in a jail cell, and yet he is able to "ghost" himself to commit crimes outside of bars. Really? This is all the improvement you could make? I found this sequel to be more problematic then the original for many reasons. One, too much lighting! I think this was suppose to be intended to be a very dark film, and if that was not your intentions, well, sorry, then it just doesn't feel like a sequel to me then! The casting was kind of crummy. Could have been a little better. Who am I kidding, it could have been a lot better. And Jim Wyonorski is our director? Well! It won't take long before we see breasts in this movie, will it? Yep, I was right, he couldn't even get five minutes into the movie without a nude scene. What a shock. Just look at the directors past work on imdb, you can see he has a fascination for this part of the body. He's worked on movies with titles such as The Witches Of Breastwick. How scary is this movie? On a scale on 1 to 10, I give it a 3. It's just not terrifying at all, and the story is a joke. It relies too heavily on trying to follow a criminal case, instead of going after the themes that put the original movie together. That's all been abandoned. ( Along with the cartons of cigarettes that were smoked in the original 976 Evil. I think there were more cigarettes then evil in that movie!) This film is just flat out dull, too bright, the story is dim, the acting is horrible, and top of it all, it spells out more 80's cheese then the original, which is a shock, because the original was an 80's movie, and this is a 90's movie. Let me spell that out for you: No improvement here. There are some scenes I thought were fun, but fun scenes do not make a fun movie. And a fun movie this is not suppose to be, the title is 976 Evil, if we wanted a fun movie, we would just watch anything else directed by Jim, right, Jim!? And, I could be wrong, but I feel as if the production didn't have their heart and soul fixed on this one. It was almost as if they just rushed everything, just to place this, and I do believe this was direct to video, if I'm not mistaken. I really do not know how CintelFilms makes its money. The production company behind both 976 films, and also titles such as I Spit On Your Grave 2010 and the 2013 sequel, which grossed pennies compared to what they spent, and then titles like this which don't make virtually any money, not to mention make anything work? Some reviewers seemed to enjoy this though, you may too, I just thought it violated everything that made 976 Evil unique.
