Storyline
Emillie (Marie Trintignant), a teacher and Louis (Jean-Hughes Anglade),a nurseryman meet with mutual acquaintances and end the evening in the apartment of the girl who has long been deprived of illusions about the future. Having made love for the first time, they attempt to get to know one another. Neither had expected anything more than a one-night stand when he accepted an invitation from her back to her apartment one hot summer's evening. She speaks mostly, Louis listens and looks closely. I saw this film in Sydney back in 1991. I remember enjoying it, but I always did have a strange taste in movies. As I'm writing this in 2003 I wonder what happened to it in the meantime.
It was neatly summarised by a couple I overheard on leaving the cinema. He said something like "Only in a French movie would you get two naked people talking about their relationship for an hour and a half". That's exactly what happened in the film - but I don't recall being bored at any time.
The amusing thing is that they begin the film naked and by the end they're both dressed. I'd love to see it again one day.
