Storyline

In 1990, it was 50 years since Bugs Bunny first appeared on film in a recognizable form and outwitted hunter Elmer Fudd. To commemorate the subsequent half-century-long career of the most famous cartoon rabbit in history, this prime-time television special was produced and featured several Hollywood stars stating their affection and admiration for Bugs, intercut with clips from various of Bugs' cartoons and comments by legendary cartoon directors Chuck Jones and Friz Freleng. A tribute was also made to the late Mel Blanc, the voice of Bugs and countless other cartoon characters. Written by Kevin McCorry <mmccorry@nb.sympatico.ca>

Happy Birthday!

This television special is a mix of retrospective and documentary about the career and life of Bugs Bunny. Little Richard appears as a guest as does Harry Anderson from Night Court. Many other celebrities also make appearancea, either live or taped.

The Warner Bros. studio uses archive footage of Mel Blanc for the retrospective look back as well as old and new animation by Chuck Jones. It is a great companion piece to the Looney Tunes library. Only downside is that it's not available on dvd.
