Lifetime is making it official with two of its frequent collaborators, Queen Latifah and Toni Braxton. Variety confirms that both multi-hyphenates have signed major production deals with the network. Latifah will exec produce two music documentary projects, and Braxton is on-board for multiple TV movies.

“Both Queen Latifah and Toni Braxton have been part of the Lifetime family for many years,” said Lifetime and Lmn Evp Tanya Lopez. “Our audiences love them as much as we do and we are excited they will be back on the network for even more.”

Daryl Hannah’s Feature Directorial Debut Scores Distribution Ahead of SXSW Premiere

Daryl Hannah’s feature directorial debut is set to make its world premiere at SXSW in just over a week, and the pic has already found a home. Deadline reports that Netflix has snagged global rights to “Paradox,” described as a “fantasy, a loud poem, and a free-spirited tale of music and love” starring Neil Young. Scheduled to hit the streamer March 23, the project will also receive a limited theatrical release.

“Paradox” centers on “a band of outlaws hiding high up in the Mountains,” the source details. “‘The Man in the Black Hat’ (Young), the ‘Particle Kid’ (Micah Nelson), and ‘Jail Time’ (Lukas Nelson) pass the hours searching for treasure while they wait for the full moon to lend its magic, bring the music, and make the spirits fly.” Hannah penned the script.

Liz Gateley Out at Lifetime, Tanya Lopez and Gena McCarthy Promoted

Liz Gateley, Lifetime’s head of programming, is stepping down at the A+E network.

In a memo to her staff obtained by Variety, Gateley cited a desire to focus more on her family as the reason for her leaving her position, which she took up in 2015.

“With the sudden passing of my beloved nanny of 16 years, a new nanny being a no-show and ghosting me, having stressed-out teenage kids and having to lift my dog to the curb because he has a slipped disk (I kid you not!), there have been some very clear signs from the universe to focus on my family and truly be present every day for my kids and husband, who have very generously supported a career choice that required me to fly across the country every other week for the past three years,” Gateley wrote.

Phylicia Rashad to Receive League of Prof Theatre Women’s Lifetime Achievement Award

Tony winner Phylicia Rashad will soon have another award to add to her mantle. A press release has announced that the “Empire” actress will be presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s Theatre Women Awards. Hosted by the League of Professional Theatre Women (Lptw), the awards are “dedicated to promoting the visibility of the theatrical work of female-identifying artists and their contributions to the field, across all disciplines.”

Chris here. There may already Gotham noms and film festivals, but Oscar season doesn't really start until The Hollywood Reporter's Actress Roundtable - at least in our hearts. This year's lineup includes returning folks Jennifer Lawrence (mother!), Emma Stone (Battle of the Sexes), and Jessica Chastain (Molly's Game), while the newbies are Saoirse Ronan (Lady Bird), Mary J. Blige (Mudbound - finally arriving on Netflix today!), and Allison Janney (I, Tonya).

The reliance on returning guests is still irksome, and that is particularly felt this year with a smaller lineup. The ongoing reckoning with sexual predators in the industry looms large over the conversation, but we also get the usual soundbites on creative risk, career advice, and dream collaborators. Titled The Cher Show, the musical will include everything from her childhood to her impressive career. In a press statement, Cher said, "My life as a musical on Broadway. Sam Shepard was a playwright, actor, author, screenwriter and director of countless important stage and screen works. This week, beloved actor and playwright Sam Shepard died of complications from Als at the age of 73. His passing was met with an outpouring of emotion from famous fans who have long been inspired by his work; in addition to starring in classic films like The Right Stuff, Steel Magnolias, Black Hawk Down, and The Notebook, Shepard also penned over 40 plays, as well as a handful of books, short stories, memoirs, and essays. It was one of these projects that won him a Pulitzer Prize in 1979. It follows a family during the rural economic slowdown of the 1970s and depicts the disillusionment with the American Dream.
