Zach Hutton is a womanizing, drunken writer whose life seems to be falling apart at the seams. He's still in love with his ex-wife (whose family can't stand him), writer's block is keeping him from completing his latest novel, and he repeatedly finds himself in trouble of one sort or another with the law, ex-girlfriends, and jealous boyfriends.
There's a fine line between falling in love, and falling on your face.

The screenplay was originally adapted with Dudley Moore in mind. However, Moore felt the part was too similar to "10" and the recently completed "Arthur 2 On The Rocks." Moore declined the role which led to a rift between he and Director Blake Edwards. See more

I've never felt this way before. I'm seriously unhappy. This is just not the bush-league blues. We're talking major-league depression here. I can't sleep. I take pills. But they only last a couple of hours and then I'm up at 4:00 in the morning pacing the fucking house or walking on the cold fucking beach. I'm so miserable, I wanna fucking shoot myself.
