Storyline

In 1950s Italy, just before the ban of brothels, Mimma, a young and innocent country girl, reluctantly accepts to work as a prostitute and become Paprika, in the hope of raising enough money to finance her boyfriend. However, before long, Paprika will learn to enjoy her disreputable, yet very profitable occupation, working her way up one client at a time, as she journeys from one brothel to another in the bustling city of Rome. But in the end, despite Paprika's stormy, still, prosperous voyage of self-discovery, experience and sexual liberation, there is still one thing missing: the great mystery of true love. Trivia

Tinto Brass originally planned this film as a straightforward adaptation of John Cleland's "Fanny Hill", but after a number of years in development hell, he rewrote the screenplay and updated the setting to 1950s Italy. Still, the film manages to stay more faithful to Cleland's novel than most 'official' adaptations. See more »

The sexiest film by Tinto Brass
26 September 2000 | by See all my reviews

The movie does have a plot that traces the adventures of a young prostitute. But do people really watch and rewatch this movie for its plot? I doubt it very much! The main reason to watch this movie is young Deborah Caprioglio, photographed from every angle at the peak of her voluptuous beauty. She is breathtakingly beautiful, and Tinto Brass's light-hearted eroticism found its most memorable protagonist. The actress continues to make movies, but nothing measures up to the visual impact of this film.
