Half-hour stories with many themes, including; horror, twists, black-magic, sci.-fi. .... Introduced by a puppet called "The Crypt Keeper". A cross between "The Twilight Zone" and modern horror movies. Not suitable for the very young or squeamish.Written by
FOX had aired a pilot for "Two-Fisted Tales", which was intended to be a spin-off series to this show in 1991. The show was based off of the 1950s EC Comics of the same name. The episodes, "Yellow", "Showdown", and "King of the Road", were originally intended to be the first episodes of that show. When the network passed on the pilot however, the episodes were given to HBO, and the Cryptkeeper segments were added onto those episodes. See more »

When aired on the Sci-Fi channel, the episodes are missing most of the gore. The impact of violent acts are normally cut, sex and nudity is cut, and language is toned down. See more »
This series was excellent. I've seen the old EC comics this show is based on, and it truly keeps the spirit of the comics alive. Tales from the Crypt was filled with gore and humor. The Cryptkeeper was a great character and was sometimes better then the tales. The Bobcat Goldthwait episode (The Third Pig) was probably the best. I just couldn't stop laughing.
