Storyline

Doctor Sam Beckett led a group of top scientists into the desert to research his theory that a man could time travel within his own lifetime. Unfortunately, in order to save his funding, he was forced to enter the accelerator prematurely and vanished. He then found himself in someone else's body with partial amnesia. His only contact from home is Al, a holographic image only he can see and hear. Setting right things which once went wrong, Sam leaps from life to life, hoping each time that this is the final leap home. Written by Kevin <Kibble@vm.temple.edu>

Trivia

Samuel Beckett was also the name of a famed prolific Irish writer. Some have seen similarities between the series and some of Beckett's work, notably his play Waiting For Godot. However, it is unclear if the naming of the character and/or perceived parallels were intended or coincidental. See more »

Goofs

Ziggy's opening narration says that "only Sam can see and hear" Al which was thought to be true for the first season and for the first twelve seasons of season 2, but Sam and Al discover in Quantum Leap: Another Mother - September 30, 1981 that animals, very young children, the mentally disabled, and people near death can also see and hear him (as well as seeing Sam's true form). Quotes

Al: There are five stages of love. The first is denial, then the second is sex, then there's acceptance, then there's divorce... and then there's more sex, if you're lucky.
Sam: Who wrote this textbook, you or Zsa Zsa?

A great series - one of the best ever
22 July 2004 | by JohnSee all my reviews

What can I say? I loved this series! It had humor, it had sorrow, it had drama, it had suspense. It spanned the dimensions of every emotion, even when the plot was painfully thin.

Sure, there were some episodes that would have been better left on the cutting floor, but for the most part each episode was a single contained enjoyable event.

I didn't like the ending, but as it has been said the network decided to end the series and so they didn't care much how it ended.

I'm waiting for the entire series to be out on DVD (the first season is already out). I could watch these over and over ... and I will!
