Yeah, sure, "Camp Candy", I definitely remember enjoying this show. Or rather it was the only thing on at that particular hour that didn't make me want to gouge my eyeballs out. Truth be that in 1990 or so when this was being broadcast on our local Fox affiliate I was in college & was a regular advocate of the use of a certain recreational psychedelic that was notorious for depriving it's users of sleep -- I could never "crash" immediately afterward, and would usually be up well into the morning of the next day before expiring.
The reason why "Camp Candy" came to my attention is that it aired on Sunday mornings, Saturday being the preferred Magical Mystery Tour evening. I'd usually wander home during the early morning hours to catch local syndicated re-runs "The Dukes of Hazzard" or "Emergency" and just leave the TV on, and after seeing it two or three times by accident came to look forward to "Camp Candy" as a Sunday morning come-down alternative to staring at a blank wall or the ceiling while trying to get some shuteye. As can be expected I remember squat of the shows themselves, but I distinctly recall enjoying John Candy's voicework and the animation.
I'd glom onto a complete series DVD box set in a heartbeat though, if only for the nostalgic novelty, but I do remember it having a certain appeal that other material of the ages like "The Smurfs" never did, in my eyes. It also wasn't just a toy commercial, there wasn't any associated merchandising and the presence of John Candy resulted in some amusing guest spots with people like Andrea Martin and I think Eugene Levey. In any event it would be welcome, I hope that somebody remasters the series for DVD, it would sell.
5/10, which is a neutral rating rather than a reflection of the shows merits -- I simply and understandably don't remember much, except that I enjoyed it and looked forward to it after a while.
