Trivia

Chip has audio-video sensors, implanted trash compactor, and a full-range speed control. In reality, could build a trash compactor on wheels and drive it around with a remote control. Clearly you could add a microphone and camera. But the nearly impossible part is having the robot understand and react to the signals coming into the microphone and camera.

Humanoid robots also have a problem with power. The ones that look the most human-like don't have enough space inside for motors that are powerful enough and the ones that are powerful enough to move by themselves look more like construction equipment than a human. Also, bipedal locomotion is one of the hardest problems in robotics.

If the robot is the size of a human, you could fit a very small trash compactor. See more »

Quotes

Chip: Dinner's ready.
Becky: I'm not hungry.
Chip: Are you upset because Brian is taking Erin to the dance?
Becky: Please just leave me alone.
Chip: I can take you to the dance.
Becky: That's all I need, a 400-pound robo-geek stepping all over my feet. No thanks. Now would you just go away a quit ruing my life, okay?
Chip: I didn't mean to ruin your life, Becky.
Becky: Yeah, well you have. Ever since you came into this family.
Chip: I'm sorry.
Becky: Just forget it. Look, I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings.

If memory serves true, AMAZING

Nothing better than an android boasting 80's technology and a coming-of-age storyline to pull your thoughts from the depths of your mind front and center to be taken captive by a beautifully lovable cast. Growing up in the 80's gave me the priceless opportunity to see re- runs of "not quite human" on many special occasions. Considering the fact that my parents were never present during the viewings, I would guess that I would most likely not enjoy it near as much as I did as a child. So perhaps this is a film to dig out of your VHS collection and hand to your kids, it can be found on the same tape as "The apple dumpling gang" and an episode of "tour of duty," that is if you recorded in LP mode of course.
