Trivia

Each movie of the Lethal Weapon franchise features a goon with glasses. Here, in the first one, it is the balding goon, Gustaf (Gustav Vintas), who delivers the line "He has a grenade!" during the desert scene and is later shot in the club by Riggs. See more »

Goofs

Joshua shoots open the front door of Murtaugh's house and walks into the kitchen. The TV is turned on and the breakfast table has a two cereal boxes, some flowers and some place settings on it. It is being lit by the light hanging above the table. Joshua fires a couple of shots into the TV screen to turn it off, and when it cuts to a wide shot with Joshua's back to the camera, we can now see that the table is covered in debris and the hanging light is out and laying on top of the table even though he never fires his gun at that area of the room. Quotes

[Murtaugh is holding out a grenade, threatening to kill Mr. Joshua and his gang if they don't give him back his daughter, Rianne]
Mr. Joshua: He's bluffing. He wouldn't kill his own daughter.
Roger Murtaugh: Sure thing, pal! If she dies, she's gonna die with me - MY way, not yours!

Alternate Versions

The Director's Cut (not actually a true director's cut, but a marketing promotion by Warner Bros.) features seven minutes of additional footage. In a new trailer scene, Riggs smashes his TV with a beer bottle; later he buys a new one. Murtaugh, before partnering with Riggs, goes to practice at the firing range. Riggs, before the dope shoot out, answers a call in a school yard with a sniper. Riggs walks out into the line of fire and kills the sniper, emptying his clip into him. Riggs, after leaving Murtaugh's house, goes out to solicit a prostitute. The aftermath is not shown, but Riggs says he wants to take her home to watch The Stooges with him; for this he pays her $100. The best action/buddy film
11 April 2003 | by george.schmidtSee all my reviews

LETHAL WEAPON (1987) ***1/2 Mel Gibson, Danny Glover, Gary Busey, Mitchell Ryan, Tom Atkins, Darlene Love, Traci Wolfe. One of the best action/comedy/buddy films of all time with Gibson as suicidal loose cannon maverick cop Martin Riggs mismatched with partner Roger Murtaugh (Glover in one great comic role), who is constantly reminded of his age and the danger he's constantly in: solving a drug-linked homicide of Murtaugh's friend's daughter. Busey is memorable as an albino mercenary, Mr. Joshua, unsusceptible to pain. Some great stunts and lots of thrills thanks to helmsman Richard Donner (who also directed the sequels).
