Documentary Roddy Piper: In His Own Words releases trailer

  • JoBlo
I was never really a big fan of wrestling, but I still became a fan of Roddy Piper through his iconic roles in films like They Live and Hell Comes To Frogtown. So his passing was still pretty affecting to me. And from most accounts he seemed like a nice guy, even if he played an all-time great asshole on the WWF (or WWE as it's known today). And now he's getting his own documentary, Roddy Piper: In His Own Words,... Read More...

‘Elvira’ Blu-Ray from Cinespectral Films is Cancelled

While there has been no official statement about this release , some serious doubts have come up regarding Cinespectral FIlms’ Blu-Ray release of Elvira: Mistress of the Dark and whether it will ever hit the consumer’s hands. We were the first ones to publish the news last October and feel it necessary to bring the recent developments to the attention of our readers.

Cinespectral had announced some delays with the manufacturing of the mediabook earlier this year due to failing some quality checks. Keep in mind, this release was only coming out via mediabook, with three different variants. Blu-Ray.com forums started becoming very active. Some users requested pictures of the release and they were provided. However, Cinespectral announced that a statement would be made on Monday, July 31st. No update was made via their Facebook on Monday and Elvira fans started getting worried. Many started filing claims to PayPal requesting a refund.

5 strange, star-laden films that have never been released

Ryan Lambie Oct 3, 2016

An animated superhero movie featuring Marlon Brando? A Bill Murray comedy? Just two of the strange, starry films we may never get to see.

Film history is littered with movies that have wound up on the shelf for some reason, either because of financial difficulties or, in the case of The Day The Clown Died, because its director and star decided it was too embarrassing to be released. We've written about all sorts of shelved or cancelled films before, from Roger Corman's infamous Fantastic Four to the unreleased John Goodman comedy, Spring Break '83.

Every so often, though, we'll hear about curious-sounding projects that generate a bit of news before vanishing again. An animated film featuring the voices of Marlon Brando and Brendan Fraser, perhaps, or a modern comedy about old Greek gods featuring Christopher Walken as Zeus.

Here, then, are five strange, star-laden movies that,

Hdtgm: A Conversation with Randall Frakes, Writer/Producer of ‘Hell Comes to Frogtown’

The other—who Cameron calls “the best kept secret in Hollywood”—was a precocious storyteller by the name of Randall Frakes. Over the following four decades, the two […]

7 Rowdy Roddy Piper Movies You Need to See

7 Rowdy Roddy Piper Movies You Need to See
Rowdy Roddy Piper was many things to many people. To some he was the boisterous, kilt wearing wrestler who squared off against the likes of Hulk Hogan, 'Superfly' Jimmy Snuka and also yelled at people as the host of Piper's Pit. To others he was an actor in some of the more interesting films to ever be lensed. With Roddy Piper it didn't matter. He was many things to many people but no matter what, whether he wanted you to hate or love him, you loved him.

Roddy Piper sadly died this past Sunday of a heart attack. The man left us way too soon. At 61, he accomplished more with his career than most performers ever get a chance to fathom. He was a consummate entertainer who did what he did for the fans. He was once quoted as saying, "They cheered for me because they wanted to, not because they were programmed to.

'Rowdy' Roddy Piper 1954-2015

'Rowdy' Roddy Piper 1954-2015
Roderick Toombs, better known by his stage name 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper has died at his home in Hollywood. The 61-year-old reportedly suffered a heart attack in his sleep.Born in Saskatchewan and raised in Manitoba, Piper was expelled from junior high school for carrying a switchblade: an event that didn't sit well with his father, who was a Mountie. Leaving home early, he drifted into odd jobs at gyms, becoming an amateur boxer and wrestler before taking up the latter professionally at the age of 15. He quickly rose to fame, first for the National Wrestling Alliance, followed by the WCW and eventually the WWE. There were many awards, including "Best Heel" and "Most Hated Wrestler". People love a villain.Given his big personality, a move into movies was a logical step. He made his screen debut in an uncredited bit-part in Carl Reiner's The One And Only in 1978. A handful of roles later,

Remembering They Live

  • TheMovieBit
If your childhood was spent watching WWF in the 80’s, it no doubt took a Bulldog off the top rope this weekend, with the news that ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper (the state name of Roderick George Toombs) passed away at the age of 61 due to cardiac arrest. His larger than life persona delighted many a generation of wrestling fans, and if there ever was a Heel (wrestling speak for a bad guy) hall of fame, he would have an entire wing dedicated to him. But we’re not called The Wrestling Bit, so we look to Hot Rod’s massive contribution to the cinematic, and more importantly, pop culture landscape. No, not the music video for The Goonies that he appeared in with a handful of other WWF Superstars, or even cult classic Hell Comes to Frogtown. I am, of course, talking about They Live, John Carpenter’s underrated cult masterpiece.
