Trivia

In an interview done on set and published in Starlog 109 (cover date August 1986), Melanie Griffith reveals that she was pregnant with her first child when she tested for this movie. She was hired with a clause in her contract that if she did not have the baby by September 9, her role would be recast. Her son Alexander (with her then husband Steven Bauer) was born August 22, 1985, and Griffith started the film three weeks later, taking the boy along to the set each day to breastfeed him. Slim: You got to face it Sam, this is 2017. Even the best tracker couldn't find a Cherry in these parts.
Sam Treadwell: Well, what am I going to do, Slim? It's a Cherry or nothing!

Some dull parts, but still an effortlessly likable movie.
12 January 2000 | by gridoonSee all my reviews

"Cherry 2000" was a huge commercial failure and it's hardly ever mentioned today, but I found it surprisingly entertaining. Sure, the script is unimaginative and the film has no real vision and the action scenes are strictly routine, but the two leads are enormously, effortlessly likable. They make a deeply sweet pair. Maybe the film should have concentrated more on their love story and less on the familiar action aspects of the story. And the violence of a couple of scenes seems rather out of place. But even with its weaknesses, this movie is, fitfully, absorbing and very entertaining.
