Storyline

Vinnie Terranova does time in a New Jersey penitentiary to set up his undercover role as an agent for the OCB (Organized Crime Bureau) of the United States. His roots in a traditional Italian city neighborhood form the underlying dramatic base throughout the series, bringing him into conflict with his conservative mother and other family members while acting undercover as syndicate enforcer. The segments, which ran several shows each, included in-depth and empathetic characterizations of the players on both sides of the law. Scenarios include the underbelly of the recording industry, protection rackets, international arms dealing, foiling white supremacist plotters, uncovering a government conspiracy to set up a compliant new head of state in a third-world country, and Vinnie's final reconciliation with his Italian mother and her new husband, the purely legendary Mafia figure Don Aiupo. Quotes

Mike 'Mooch' Cacciatore: You got no cause for arrest.
Frank McPike: What are you, greaseball, a lawyer?
Mike 'Mooch' Cacciatore: Yeah, well, as a matter of fact, I am. Y'know, you grow over 6'4" and everybody automatically assumes you're brain dead. Now, I think you're too short and wimpy-looking to be a Fed, but there you are.
[grabs McPike's arm as he tries to leave]
Mike 'Mooch' Cacciatore: You arrest my client, and I'll make you wish you were a farmer rather than a Fed.
Frank McPike: You know you have your hand on me?

User Reviews

Good series from the mid-late eighties
16 February 2000 | by Alex-372See all my reviews

Wiseguy was my favorite series in '87/'88, with great story lines, a charming lead character, and an ever changing scenery.

It also introduced tv audiences to the acting abilities of Kevin Spacey, and me to the great looks of Joan Severance.
