A concert pianist sets out to kill a man who is among the judges at a competition he is taking part in. It seems that whenever the judge is present at competition he's taking part in the pianist never wins. The pianist pretends to be sick and confined to a hospital but sneaks out and kills the man. J.J. who is a friend of the judge arriving for his memorial suspects him and sets out to prove it.
The author of a popular children's book series kills the man who illustrates the book who is the actual writer and who was planning to retire, so that be the sole recipient of the books' royalties. J.J. upon hearing of his plans to retire finds it strange and goes to see him and finds his attitude very peculiar especially when he turns a woman from a foundation away.
When some of J.J.'s people have been taken hostage. Some people from the government offer their assistance. The kidnapper demands that he turn one of his freighters to him. J.J. learns that the government was using his freighter to transport arms and that there are agents on board who will stop anyone from diverting it.
