I would like to address a statement that has been brought to my attention by film fans everywhere- “what is your favourite horror film?”. Such a question is unfair because by implication it demands the individual to pick one film out of the many they have seen in their life time thus far. How is this justice I ask? To have one ‘favourite’ movie cuts you short of an existence of potential cinematic delights because the truth of it is, loving film is not crystalline, but fluid. As one gets on in years, tastes begin to differ and a film you once...

No, German Angst is not a Uwe Boll biopic, although that would seem pretty damned appropriate. What we have here, kids, is a new anthology film featuring the works of Jorg Buttgereit (Nekromantik, Der Todesking), Andreas Marchall (Tears of Kali, Masks), and Michael Kosakowoski (Zero Killed).
In 1920 Germany became the most influential production location for fantastic films. Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau’s Nosferatu, Robert Wiene’s The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari and The Hands of Orlac, Paul Wegener’s The Golem earned the German cinema the label The Demonic Screen (Lotte H. Eisner). German filmmakers told stories of the underworld beneath urban life, about the invasion of the subconscious. The frontiers between reality and dreams blurred and the fear of dark eros emerged. These masterpieces of German Expressionist cinema are the ancestors of the contemporary fantastic genre. Their influence is still felt in almost every modern film. With the Nazi dictatorship...

The last major project from Danny Boyle was, of course, the stunning London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony. Its musical directors were long-time Boyle collaborators Underworld - Karl Hyde and Rick Smith. Like all their previous work, that night's music was very much a partnership, but with Rick getting sole writing credit for the two new pieces ('Caliban's Dream' and earthshattering Industrial Revolution soundtrack 'And I Will Kiss'), there were the first signs that both parties were looking to forge an identity away from their Freur frère.
So, with Karl off working on his own solo debut Edgeland, Rick has reunited with Danny to score his Olympics' evil cousin, mindbending heist thriller Trance. Those expecting the pop jukebox of Trainspotting or banging 4/4 dance of Underworld will be surprised. Aside from a small clutch of carefully-selected songs, Smith has composed a restrained-but-powerful, twisting and turning keyboard-heavy soundtrack. Like Boyle's film, it's flawed, a...

Dread Central has been airing webisodes of Ghost Trek, a faux reality show lampooning all of the ghost hunting shows on TV today (like a Grave Encounters comedy). They began on 10/8 and now have 3 webisodes up, with a fourth coming next Monday. We recently got our hands on the press release that describes the show and links you to a featurette, trailer and an interview with some cast members from the WWE.
If I’m watching it, it’s because it stars the little zombie girl from The Walking Dead, Addy Miller. I have the trailer below, and the press release is below for your perusal, with links to a sizzle reel, interview with the cast, and a featurette on Ghost Trek: The Kinsey Report. Enjoy!
Trailer:
Do you ever watch those ghost hunting shows and scratch your head, thinking to yourself, “These shows are so ridiculous. Why am I watching this?...

"Men or money? Whenever I cry it's usually men or money" Since 1987, I have been a huge Clive Barker fan. I collected Coenobium (The Clive Barker fanzine), had all the books and even owned Transmutations and Rawhead Rex. So when I caught wind of Nightbreed, I was crazy excited. I saw it at a 9:00 showing on Hollywood Blvd. It might have been the Egyptian but Im not sure (it was a long time ago). I enjoyed the film but immediately noticed sc…...

We hold in our hands the covers for DC Comics this February. As a child of four can plainly see, these comics have been hermetically sealed in a Cgc 9.9 slab, and they’ve been kept in a #2 mayonnaise jar under a giant stack of returned copies of Holy Terror since noon today.
What do we have worth noting? The new look of Darkseid, and we’re far enough into the new 52 books that it’s time for Batman to start crossing over in all of them. Plus Mara Jade, the red-haired assassin who fell in love with her blond-haired man she was sent to kill– oh, I’m sorry, that’s from Star Wars. This is Mera in a jade outfit. Our mistake.
Shall we? Surely!
As usual, spoilers may lurk beyond this point.

Tremors? Nightbreed? Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat? 976-evil? Are all on the list this year. And though there were not huge horror wins in sound editing through screenplays, the Technical Awards never cease to bring out the horror veterans. Notably Tim Drnec who contributed to such VHS classics as Alien Seed, Destroyer, and Prison won for his work on “Spydercam 3D volumetric suspended cable camera technologies.” An award also shared with Ben Britten Smith and Matt Davis who both also worked on Constantine.
But among all the winners, the Academy also honored some great loses in 2010. And though they mentioned some of our heroes, Dennis Hooper (Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2), Kevin McCarthy (Invasion of the Body Snatchers) and Dino de Laurentiis (King Kong), they did not mention Zelda Rubinstein or Corey Haim. But we will in this last section and the others lost to us last year.
So farewell fight fans and remember,...

It's that time of year Horror hounds. Time to begin anticipating what this year will bring to the Horror genre and to reflect on what 2010 had to offer. Our crack team of self-proclaimed Horror experts consisting of little ol' me have compiled a list of 2010's Top Ten most entertaining Horror films. The list is based on extensive research and long hours of trying to scare the crap out of myself to find films that have all the things that I and many other fans love about the genre and some things we haven't quite seen before.
You may ask what my criteria are for a film to earn a spot on the top 10. There are several factors that begin and end with entertainment value. Some are dumb fun, some are clever, some are raw and some are polished. They are not all critics...

Underworld singer Karl Hyde has admitted that he and Rick Smith have not always been the best of friends. The musicians have been working together for over 30 years, initially forming as The Screen Gemz, before founding Freur. In September, they released Barking, their eighth studio album as Underworld. Asked for the secret behind the length of their musical partnership, Hyde quipped: "We've had loads of fallings out - We just decided not to split up! It really was as simple as that. A long time ago we said that even if we're not friends it shouldn't stop us making music. "You don't have to be friends to make music. That's a great fallacy, that everybody has to be a buddy and get on and agree and like each other's taste in music and each other's girlfriends or whatever. It's (more)...

Hammer Films's "Queen of Horror," Ingrid Pitt, has died of apparent heart failure in London. She was 73. More after the jump. Pitt was best known as the seductive vampire in Hammer's The Vampire Lover and Countess Dracula. The Polish-born actress survived several years in a Nazi concentration camp during WWII, but went on to become a noted European stage actress. Ingrid appeared in 25 films during a career that spanned four decades. Included among those are The Wicker Man, The House that Dripped Blood, Transmutations, and Octopussy. She also had a recurring role in Doctor Who. Source: Ukpa...

Google "M.I.A's New Album" and you get the title. That's /\/\/\Y/\, or Maya, the singer's real name. Google "/\/\/\Y/\", however, and you get just about anything but /\/\/\Y/\, says the Hipster Runoff blog. Using the forward/back slash version of the name in the search engine merely gets you Yahoo!, Yahoo! Mail, Generation Y, and the letter Y. Anyone obsessed with SEOs would be cacking their golden leggings. Anyone artistically minded wouldn't give a crap.
Back in the '80s, there was a U.K. band called Freur (some of its members went on to found Underworld) and there was, of course, Prince's tranformogrification into Symbol, both of which you can see below. Freur had to promise their label, CBS, that they would come up with a pronounceable name which, being a clever bunch of neologists, became Freur.
