Sex & Nudity

  • In the beginning, a teenage boy mentions having a "hard-on"; penis size insult, "up yours" follow.
  • A couple has loud sex. We see the bare back of the man thrust once. Orgasm noises are heard but not seen. We later hear they were only 15.
  • They then lie together in bed; no nudity.
  • She gets out of bed; some cleavage; perhaps a flash of a small portion of the bottom of a breast.
  • A teenage boy mentions that he was watching "Ms. Nude America... His mother asks how he is able to listen to music while watching that: "How can you hear what they're saying?" He quips "Who cares what they're saying?"
  • A woman takes off her nightgown and from behind you see her panties and no shirt on from behind. Right breast is briefly seen from the side.
  • Fred Krueger's gloved hand comes up in between Nancy's legs in the bathtub. In the same setting Nancy is pull under the water and a brief side view of her breasts are seen.
  • The term "screw" is used a couple times to show disdain. See Profanity.
  • Freddy Krueger is a child molester, but this is never directly stated, and only lightly implied.

Violence & Gore

  • A teenage girl is dragged across the ceiling by an unseen force. Bloody marks and slashes appear across her chest and abdomen, but we never directly see the wounds due to the marks being beneath her clothes. Would have been very graphic for the time, but not so much now.
  • A teenage boy is dragged into a pit in the centre of his bed, before being ejected in a fountain of blood. The effect is impressive but obviously very unrealistic and silly, and the scene is mostly played for laughs.
  • A teenage boy is hung from the rafters of a prison cell with a twisted bedsheet. We see his feet hanging down, but there is no blood or graphic material shown.
  • Freddy's face is ripped off, and his skull is shown (torn flesh surrounds it, but it's rather unrealistic and not too graphic, also rather brief).
  • A teenage girl's body is seen inside a body bag which is covered in blood during a dream sequence. Very stylised, but potentially disturbing.
  • A daughter disdainfully criticizes her mother; the mother slaps the daughter.
  • Freddy Krueger slashes at his chest briefly with his knife glove, and green slime comes out, accompanied by maggots and bugs. Less violent, more creepy, with a slight masochistic edge.
  • A character's mother is grabbed by Freddy Krueger in a dream sequence in a mock bear-hug, turning them into an ashy skeleton. We see this from a distance, though, so the image is not too graphic.
  • In one dream sequence, a teenager in a body bag turns into a pile of bugs and organs inside the bag, which is then dragged off by an invisible force. We see this from a short distance. Stylised, but disturbing and gruesome.

Profanity

  • About 6 f---s and s---s; "a--", "d-mn", and "h---" are used; "J-----" and likely other religious exclamations, as well as other crude language. Some may object to non-exclamatory references to deity at the funeral scene and elsewhere. This list covers most vulgarities:
  • h*ll, d*ckhead, f*cking', screw, g*dd*amn, f*ck
  • f---er
  • scr-w

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Nancy's mother is an alcoholic (we see her drinking throughout the film, as well as seeing her drunk in one scene). She also smokes cigarettes.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Several chase scenes between the main character and Freddy.
  • Because this is a film from the 80s it could be looked at as very outdated. The acting is mediocre and not very believable. As long as your child is over the age of 11 and mature then this film will not scare them.
  • Freddy's appearance may scare viewers.
  • Several jump scares throughout the film.
  • The ending could be seen as disturbing or unsettling, although there is a very fake special effect which somewhat takes off the disturbing edge.
  • Strong sense of sadistic threat throughout the film
  • Characters are afraid of going to sleep because of what may happen to them
  • The film may be psychologically upsetting for younger viewers.
