The film's English title was extended to include "The Professional" before the title character's name because Carl Macek - who wanted the films released by his company (Streamline Pictures) to appeal to anime fans and ordinary film-goers alike - feared that those unfamiliar with the manga would think that the standalone film was part of a series. The "Professional" title had previously been used by LEED Publishing and Viz Media's localization of the Golgo 13 story "The Argentine Tiger". See more »

The original Streamline Pictures in the USA in the early 90s deleted the original opening credit sequence. James Bond served Japanese-style. Not much character development of Golgo 13, just a suave assassin who enjoys the pleasures of women. Just look at his face during the coupling scenes and you see that his blood runs ice-cold. There is much humour, and many ridiculous killers, from Snake to Silver & Gold. The narrative telling the background story of Silver & Gold is priceless and worth the viewing of this film just for that scene. I am talking about the 2 guys dropped into the jungle without food or weapons for 30 days and they both killed a whole army of guys.
