SuperTed
jboothmillard8 June 2005
Warning: Spoilers
When I was a kid this used be one of my favourite cartoons ever. I don't remember seeing it on TV, but we had a couple of videos. It's about a teddy bear brought to life by a spotty man's cosmic dust. He then takes him to Mother Nature who gives him special powers. "That bear became SuperTed!" SuperTed always lived in space and rescued anyone in danger or with problems. Spotty was a little bit wimpy sometimes, but he was a good partner, I didn't realise he was voiced by Worzel Gummidge, Jon Pertwee! Anyway, SuperTed's most popular villains are Texas Pete the cowboy with his two helpers the fat and stupid Bulk, and the wimpy Skeleton. I don't know if it the stories I liked, or the fact that the hero was a teddy bear. But it is very good, kids will love it!

Victor Spinetti, RIP
lee_eisenberg19 June 2012
Victor Spinetti just died, so I wanted to review one of his credits. "SuperTed" is fairly interesting, if not great. I saw it on video a few times when I was young. It wasn't even until many years later that I learned that Victor Spinetti provided the voice of villain Texas Pete (by which point I knew Spinetti as the co-star from the Beatles' movies). In fact, providing the voice of Bulk was Spinetti's "Help!" co-star Roy Kinnear (also memorable as Mr. Salt in "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory"). Reading about the show, I was surprised to learn that it comes from Wales; I've always thought that we don't hear enough about that country.

Anyway, it's an OK show. Nothing particularly special, but pretty entertaining.

Bones!

great series for kids
the_oak27 May 2000
When I was a kid the norwegian broadcasting channel used to show this series in the weekends, and I remember a few episodes very vividly. The intro to every episode shows a teddybear being malmanufatured, and thrown down into a cold and dark store room. Then there comes an alien with spots and they go to a magic cloud where he is given fantastic powers and he becomes SUPERTED. The whole series is about Superted and his alien friend trying to fight evil, most often in the form of the criminal trio Tex, Bolla (in english perhaps bigboy) and Beinet (he is a skeleton). These are smalltimers who dont succeed, Tex is the leader, but Superted always overcomes his scrupulous plans. All in all I remember it as a good series for kids.

How could I ever have forgotten SuperTed?
TheLittleSongbird4 May 2010
During my childhood I watched a lot of cartoons, and at 18 I was thinking the other day of cartoons I watched but I had forgotten about. SuperTed was one of them. A wonderful show, that should've lasted longer. Beautiful animation, great music, wonderful plot-lines, intelligent writing and lovable characters including SuperTed, Spotty and Skeleton are only a few things to like about the show. What made the characters lovable were that they had unique and distinct personalities and that they were very well-voiced by the likes of Jon Pertwee. I also loved the concept of SuperTed, and the well- thought out plot-lines which did really well staying consistent ensured the show stayed true to the concept. Maybe it is just me, but SuperTed has to be one of the most underrated shows out there, it was wonderful and I feel utterly ashamed for having forgotten it. 10/10 Bethany Cox

Superted is Fantastic!
nicholamcdougall6 August 2005
I totally adore Superted! He was everything a Woman could want out of a man! Spotty acted a bit more as a Woman and was totally gay, while superted acted manly with his Heroic efforts to save the Earth. The Best Episodes where ''Superted and the Porthole Rescue'' and ''Superted and the Great Horrendo''. Where Superted acts pretty Harsh to Spotty for a reluctant attempt of a Rescue Mission, he only ends up with losing him in the underground peneye Porthole Waterfall!:( That was so Srong/Powerful it had me crying in Emotional Despair,) when I was a Kid. It was also so incredibly Powerful enough to actually see Superted cry in Pain as he thought his friend Spotty had really died/Perished in the up coming waters of the waterfall and a great Relief/Joy to see Superted so happy as he eventrully finds and saves Spotty from Falling to his Death for a Second Time Round.

The other Best Episode has to be when Superted though Spotty had been sawed in half, in other words Sawed/Manslaugthered to Death by the Monstrous, evil Texas Pete.

One fantastic cartoon that should be brought back
andy595528 December 2007
When I was small, I watched a single episode of this on a video and fell in love with it. Years later, when videos had been replaced by CDs, I forgot about it until recently. However, it has gone away quietly and no one even talks about it anymore. Why waste such a perfectly good cartoon? It had wonderful (though sometimes not logical) plots and good voice acting. The character of a teddy bear could appeal to all age groups. I personally feel that they should bring him back to the land of the living and not let him be forgotten. Some cartoons are forgotten, others are brought back again by those who created them. This is one cartoon that should be aired on TV again.

an underrated cartoon
m-ozfirat3 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I once had a 1980s VHS of SuperTed that consisted of 6 episodes and I thoroughly enjoyed the series. When most people think of 1980s children's television they usually think of the brash toy line cartoons but forget about the original cartoons programs of the era SuperTed being a good example. The scenario is basic but the characters both the protagonists and the antagonists are well developed and thought. The storylines are well thought out that take place all over the world thus overall creating a good formula for the program to successfully work. Another advantage this program has is that it is not serious or deep like comic book heroes but remains child orientated for family enjoyment and everything is kept down to earth. The animation is good not crude and not fancy with good music. To conclude a great and underrated children's program that deserves more recognition. Although I hope they do not spoil it by doing a remake it should remain a timeless classic.

My go to show when I am sick
ebunker41 October 2014
When I was a kid, a single VHS tape with six episodes of SuperTed came in a backpack I got at a yard sale. That tape is one of my most prized possessions. The characters are amazing, and the story lines are pretty nuts. Whenever I get sick and have to stay home, SuperTed, soup and juice are the remedy. I still have the entire opening sequence memorized. That opener is actually the origin story, and it is gloriously 80s. The premise of this show is really original, and the execution is exactly what the viewer would never expect. Even the plastic cassette jacket is unusual. It looks like a regular old Disney VHS jacket, but it weighs a lot more. All in all, one of the best pieces of 80's cartoonery of all time.
