Storyline

A family moves into a long-condemned New England household with a big pond out back that everybody loves to swim in. Soon, however, they find that the pond was the site of the execution- by-drowning of a witch three hundred years before, and she's back to revenge herself on anybody nearby, whether they're Catholic or not. Trivia

Superstition was extremely popular on pre-cert video in the UK on the VTC label in the early 1980s. So popular that it actually got a subsequent cinema release in 1984 under the title "The Witch" courtesy of Bordeaux Films International. This is one of the few times a video release was followed up by a theatrical release, rather than the other way around. It was then re-released by Stablecane under the title "The Witch" again on video shortly afterwards. See more »

Premise Good, Story & movie Sucks
5 August 2001 | by tom sawyerSee all my reviews

Having written a book about a woman falsely accused of being a witch and vowing revenge, I was intrigued by the idea when I read the basic idea behind the story. Then I rented it and started watching. I was quickly disappointed. What could have been a decent premise for a movie just turned into a hack aand slash movie with a bunch of stupid soon-to-be victims running around waiting for their turn to die in some grisly manner. Like I said, a witch wanting to sate her long desired revenge on people in the area is a good idea, but after five minutes that idea flew out the proverbial window and it became a cheap imitation of a Freddie, and Jason flick.Anybody who gives this high marks as a film must really like bad films. No stars for this film. They should have paid me to see it.
