There are a number of sad scenes in this film. Savanna ran away from home after being ignored by her parents. Alvie, as a young boy, wept as the truck with boys in it left him behind in a flashback, laughing at him. Savannah woke up from her nightmare and Alvie rocks her in a parently manner. Both Alvie and Boots remorsefully return Savannah back to her parents and turned down the award money prior to their arrest. Savannah says goodbye to Alvie and Boots at the end. An alternate flashback of young Alvie finally rides with the boys before the end credits.
