Storyline

This comedy film brings Burt Reynolds, Sir Roger Moore, Farrah Fawcett, Dom DeLuise, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr. and an all-star cast to the starting line of the ultimate auto race, a madcap cross-country scramble that roars full-speed ahead. This action-comedy was inspired by an actual event: the Cannonball Baker Sea-To-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash, an anything goes, all-stops-out, and very much illegal, competition that has grown to legendary proportions within the last ten years. Goofs

At random times during the race, Seymour has his black gloves on and off. At one point where he is not wearing them while driving, his female passenger goes to press a button. He stops her, grabbing her hand, clearly wearing a black glove, yet back to the front-on shot he is clearly not wearing the gloves. See more »

Quotes

J.J. McClure: Look, we can't have a car with numbers on it. So, we're going to have to disguise the car somehow.
Victor Prinsi: Alright.
J.J. McClure: How about a big, black limousine with diplomatic plates?
Victor Prinsi: Nah!
J.J. McClure: Nah. I know, a bloodmobile. They wouldn't stop a bloodmobile, would they?
Victor Prinsi: Nah!
J.J. McClure: Nah.
Victor Prinsi: An ice cream truck! Yeah, an ice cream truck! Y'know, they gotta get there before it melts!

Alternate Versions

For some reason, the video version dubs over some of the language heard in the big screen and pay channel versions. For example, when Bert Convay asks Peter Fonda what he wants, Fonda answers "Your ass" in the original, but is heard to say "You're asking me?" on the video version. See more »

A Funny Cross-Country Adventure
21 October 2014 | by Rainey-DawnSee all my reviews

This movie is reminiscent of Smokey and the Bandit: We have Burt Reynolds, a cross-country run, car chases and wrecks, an-all star cast and cheesy funny comedy.

The bonus to The Cannonball Run is in fact the all-star cast which actually "made" this film work so well. They are all very funny in this film. If you like Smokey and the Bandit then you may enjoy The Cannonball Run as well - both are similar and quite fun to watch.

This is a great afternoon "popcorn" film - this is not the kind of film that provokes any deep thought - it's just pure fun comedy. All you have to do is kickback and enjoy! 8.5/10
