Trivia

Second of three motion pictures in the early three cinema movie career stardom of actress Lynn-Holly Johnson which had been preceded by the Olympic ice-skating romantic film Ice Castles (1978) and then after The Watcher in the Woods (1980) followed by the James Bond movie For Your Eyes Only (1981). These two other pictures both featured winter sports unlike The Watcher in the Woods (1980). See more »

Alternate Versions

Two endings were shot for the film: the original ending depicted the three adults in the circle. Instead of Ellie coming in, possessed by the spirit, a black demonic creature comes up the aisle and envelopes Jan. They ascend and disappear into thin air. Jan's mother then comes in and wonders where Jan is. When she can't get a word out of them, she starts to worry to the extent. Then, out of nowhere, Jan re-appears with Karen, still the same age as she was when the incident in the film first took place, and she takes Karen to see her now aged mother. They run in the lawn and embrace each other, with Jan in the background, crying with Joy, then Ellie asks where the Watcher went to. Jan replies "Home, where ever that is." Thus the credits come. Kids Flick
24 October 2002 | by ripDSee all my reviews

Ok, it might not be the greatest movie out there, but I really enjoyed it when I was a kid. And because of that the few times since then that I have watched it, I have held a kind of fascination with it. But alas, my opinion is tainted by childhood. That scary (oh so scary) scene in the fun house haunted me for a long time. And Bette Davis, she is awesome.
