Trivia

To create the Wampa's roar, sound effects artist Randy Thom recorded the noises made by an elephant in the Oakland Zoo. Sound designer Ben Burtt and the movie sound team then recorded the cries of a sea lion at Marineland of the Pacific Public oceanarium and mixed that on top of the elephant recording to produce the final effect. Quotes

[first lines]
Luke: Echo Three to Echo Seven. Han, old buddy, do you read me?
Han Solo: Loud and clear, kid. What's up?
Luke: Well, I finished my circle. I don't pick up any life readings.
Han Solo: There isn't enough life on this ice cube to fill a space cruiser. Sensors are placed. I'm going back.
Luke: Right. I'll see you shortly. There's a meteorite that hit the ground near here. I want to check it out. It won't take long.

Although the Death Star has been destroyed, Imperial troops have driven the Rebel forces from their hidden base and pursued them across the galaxy. Evading the dreaded Imperial Starfleet, a group of freedom fighters led by Luke Skywalker has established a new secret base on the remote ice world of Hoth. The evil lord Darth Vader, obsessed with finding young Skywalker, has dispatched thousands of remote probes into the far reaches of space..." See more »

Alternate Versions

In the original version, there is an exterior shot of Cloud City before cutting inside to the room where Han and Leia are waiting. The exterior shot shows Leia and a matte painting of the building they are in. The matte painting makes the building appear to have two stories, even though, from the inside, the room has a skylight window. For the Special Edition, the exterior is reduced to one story, to match the interior shot. See more »

I enjoy this one more than A New Hope

So much amazing action and beautiful cinematography makes for such an enlightening experience! In The Empire Strikes Back you know who everyone is which is great plus Yoda is introduced! I love this movie the music is soothing, there's romance, more of Darth Vader, and introduces Emperor Palpatine what more can you ask for? A lot to relish and get excited about; it's such a classic gem.
