Trivia

In the pilot, Rick was the owner of a club called Rick's Café Américain (also known as "The Snow Palace") and he acted "like a Humphrey Bogart wannabe", which was how he was written by Donald P. Bellisario. After the events of the pilot, the Café was closed down and Rick became manager of the King Kamehameha Club (at the behest of CBS, who didn't like the original version of the character), which had Higgins on the board of directors. Magnum would often meet clients and his friends at the club. See more »

Goofs

Despite being only a private detective, Magnum is involved in the deaths of at 15 people during the run of the series. Yet he never faces any criminal prosecution for this, even though at least three of these events were clearly cases of premeditated murder. See more »

Alternate Versions

In the original German dubbed version from the 80's (for ARD) all references to Thomas Magnum's Vietnam missions were deleted and the series was cut down to fit its given time slot. Creative dubbing hid the cuts. In 1994 the series was re-dubbed (for RTL), this time in it's original, uncut form. See more »

Tom Selleck's Finest Hour
27 May 2002 | by Big Movie FanSee all my reviews

Boy, do I love 80's shows. They had everything-action, women in bikinis, bad guys, cool cars, they had the lot.

In my opinion, this series was Tom Selleck's finest hour. Magnum P.I. lived in a mansion in Hawaii where he had to put up with Higgins who was looking after the house for Mr. Masters. Both had respect for each other obviously but they were always getting on each other's nerves and Magnum also had to put up with two dogs-Zeus and Apollo if my memory serves me correctly-who didn't like him at all.

Of course, like most 80's heroes Magnum had a cool car which he used to parade around Hawaii solving all types of cases involving crooks both small-time and big time. Magnum used to investigate the cases and then engage in a good old fight at the end.

All in all, a good show. And who can forget Magnum's shirts?
