Storyline

Rocky Balboa is enjoying life. He has a lovely wife, Adrian, had a successful fight with Apollo Creed and is able to enjoy the money he earned from the fight and a new endorsement deal. Unfortunately, Rocky becomes embarrassed when failing to complete an advert and ends up working in a meat packing company. He believes that he will no longer have a career as a boxer. Apollo wants to rematch with Rocky to prove all his critics wrong that he can beat Rocky. Can Rocky once again have a successful fight? Written by Film_Fan

Trivia

During the commercial filming scene, the clapper-board reads "Director: John Pleshette", the real name of the actor playing the director. Also, Duke (Apollo's Trainer), the Agent and the Meat Foreman (played by Tony Burton, Leonard Gaines and Frank McRae respectively) are all referred to by their real Christian names in the script, while the Referee is introduced as Lou Fillipo, again the real-life name of the actor (who is also a professional fight referee). Goofs

At the end of Rocky I, Rocky punched Apollo in the right ribs. But when both of them meet in the hospital in Rocky II you will noticed Apollo is holding his left ribs. See more »

Quotes

[Rocky and Mickey are watching the film of the first fight]
Mickey: Left handed fighters, they're the worst. They lead with their face mostly, trying to throw that big left. Right's no damn good. They ought to outlaw southpaws.
Rocky Balboa: Why didn't you tell me this before?
Mickey: I didn't wanna hurt your feelings.

User Reviews

Faithful to the spirit of the original.
7 September 1999 | by gridoonSee all my reviews

"Rocky II" isn't as wildly entertaining as the next installment (which is my favorite), and it's slightly overlong, too. But it's still an earnestly made, appealingly tender sequel. Stallone dedicates time to character development and quirky humor (the scene where he attempts to star in commercials is really funny), making the movie more suitable for viewers who prefer dialogue over action - although the actual fight is more dynamic than the one in the original.
