Ashley Higher Harris is a healer in real life, as well as playing one in the film. During production, his herbal preparations actually did heal the movie's sound-man of a severe skin allergy.
Virtually the entire cast is comprised of Jamaica's leading reggae musicians.
Monica Madgie Craig, who plays Horsemouth's wife in the film, is his real common-law wife. Their three children are also featured.
Marjorie Norman, who plays Sunshine, was discovered by the producer and director when they were on a recce for one of the village locations used in the film. She returned to her village life immediately after filming was completed.
After "Horsemouth" Wallace is affronted outside the club dining room by Sunshine's father, the club owner, he breaks the fourth wall, speaking directly to the camera. His speech paraphrases Psalm 1:3: "I am like a tree planted by the river of water, whose roots will never fail, whose leaves will never fall."
