This movie and Heaven Can Wait (1978) marked the return to the screen for Dyan Cannon, who had been on a four-year hiatus. She once said: "It's so much fun filming a Pink Panther. We just laugh our way through each day's shooting".
A royal visit occurred during filming. The set was visited by all three House of Windsor princes, Prince Charles, Prince Andrew and Edward Wessex. After a third take had been ruined, Prince Charles apologized by saying, "You'll never get it right if I keep laughing in the middle!".
The Henry Mancini Pink Panther series theme music was reworked into a typical 1970s disco bass-line with guitar solo and electric piano. The dancy disco feel was also reworked to the film's score and soundtrack.
Publicity for this picture stated that the cast and crew traveled more than 25,000 miles (40,234 km) to shoot this movie with locations ranging from Paris and the French Riviera to Eastern settings in Hong Kong.
When Sellers first goes into the 'Balls' costume shop and put on his midget costume he shows acknowledgment to his final scene in Dr. Stangelove by stating "I can walk", obviously missing out the "Mein Fuhrer" part.
