This movie was during the annual hiatus from Donny and Marie's popular variety show largely as a vehicle with the hope that it would inspire a series of harmless, fun-in-the-sun movies that had worked for Frankie and Annette. Alas, the movie was a commercial failure so all future plans were cancelled.
