Interview: Actress & Voiceover Artist Vida Ghaffari

Vida Ghaffari is an award-winning actress and voiceover artist who is best known for her appearances on the television comedies, Mind of Mencia on Comedy Central, Jimmy Kimmel Live on ABC and The Mindy Project formerly on Fox. However, after completing a supporting role in Nation’s Fire and the much buzzed about Holy Terror she is really starting to make an impact and recently won the Trailblazer Award at the Universe Multicultural Film Festival (pictured below).

I got an opportunity to ask Vida a few questions about how she got into acting and voiceover work, working with Mel Novak and her various upcoming projects which she is working on.

How did you first get into acting and voiceover work?

I actually got my start as a reporter for an international satellite Persian TV station. I voiced their promos in English and Farsi and then put together my first demos from that.

‘Birth of the Dragon’ Review: Dir. George Nolfi (2018)

Birth of the Dragon review: This inspired-by-fact tale does little to inspire or enlighten and only very occasionally enlivens.

Birth of the Dragon review by Andrew Gaudion.

Birth of the Dragon review

The life of Bruce Lee is one that has fascinated movie fans for decades and has led to a big-screen biopic once before in the form of Rob Cohen’s entertaining and respectful 1993 film Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story. His unique style of Kung Fu and his supernova-esque burst of success solidified him as a true icon of the 20th Century. It shouldn’t be a surprise that filmmakers want to continue to add to that iconography with films that explore aspects of his rich but brief life.

Birth of the Dragon has a degree of pedigree behind it, the type of pedigree that would lead you to believe that this will be a sincere approach to depicting

Poster & two clips from ‘Nemesis 5: The New Model’

Albert Pyun’s Nemesis franchise was a staple of the Dtv era, with the Olivier Gruner starring first film exploding into video stores in 1992 and a further 3 installments released in 1995 and 1996 – probably because Pyun churned out the sequels in order to cash in on the popularity of the original… Why the history lesson? Well a Fifth film in the franchise, Nemesis 5: The New Model, is currently in production! Pyun is not behind the camera this time, merely a producer, with filmmaker Dustin Ferguson (The Amityville Legacy) taking the directorial reigns.

It is the year 2077 and terrorist organization known as The Red Army Hammerheads now dominate the Earth. The fate of humanity now rests in the hands of The New Model, Ari Frost (Schuylar Craig). Trained under the wing of Alex Rain (Sue Price), she must form an army of Cyborg Humans to take down the regime and regain control.

Production wraps on ‘Tales of Frankenstein’

Production has just wrapped in Los Angeles on the horror film Tales of Frankenstein, starring Game of Death’s Mel Novak and Wolverine creator Len Wein in his final film. The movie is based upon four of writer-director Donald F. Glut’s (The Empire Strikes Back novel) short stories published in his book of the same name:

“My Creation, My Beloved,” (a deformed descendant of Victor Frankenstein creates the perfect man and woman), “Crawler from the Grave,” (another Frankenstein descendant’s disembodied, plague-infected arm returns from the grave for revenge), “Madhouse of Death” (a private detective winds up in an old dark house filled with loonies…and a gorilla) and “Dr. Karnstein’s Creation,” (a mad doctor creates a monster in vampire-haunted Transylvania – with gruesomely unexpected results).

Production wraps on supernatural thriller ‘When It Rings’

Action movie vet Mel Novak (Samurai Cop 2, An Eye For an Eye) has completed work on his latest film, the supernatural thriller When It Rings.

For the first time since the death of his sister, Zach (Martin) returns to his childhood home to get it ready for sale. While there, he uncovers an old toy phone he once used to “talk” to his dead sister. Years of counseling convinced him it was all in his head until an unexpected call comes through the plastic phone, setting off a series of terrifying events, and making him question what, and who, is real.

Novak, whose many credits also include Game of Death, Holy Terror and the upcoming Steve McQueen: American Icon, joins Golden Globe Winner Sally Kirkland and newcomer Gonzalo Martin in the film – which is directed by Ty Haisten and David Rivers – whose short film “Chatter,” inspired this movie.

The unmade Snake Plissken project

Padraig Cotter Sep 4, 2017

Corey Mitchel talks us through the unmade Snake Plissken anime follow-on from Escape From L.A....

The last time Snake Plissken escaped on the big screen was 1996’s Escape From L.A., and while that movie had moments it failed to connect with viewers the way Snake’s original adventure did. Escape From New York remains a cult classic for many reasons: its grim depiction of the future, John Carpenter’s taut storytelling, the moody score and the memorable cast of characters, led by Kurt Russell’s insanely cool outlaw Snake Plissken.

Despite being an amoral anti-hero with few redeemable qualities, Snake holds a special place in the heart of genre fans. Sadly Escape From L.A.’s financial failure and tepid response pretty much doomed any further outings with Russell playing the role, and the actor has since ruled out playing an aged version of Snake. For years

17 films to catch at Horror Channel FrightFest 2017

Den Of Geek Aug 22, 2017

Horror Channel FrightFest takes place in London this weekend. Here's our pick of films to look out for...

Summer’s almost over and what better way to welcome in the spooky season than by hiding from the heat in a darkened room, with five days of wall-to-wall horror? Yep, it’s August Bank Holiday and that means the 18th annual London Horror Channel FrightFest is upon us. For some, this is a familiar pilgrimage. Veterans will be used to bloodshot eyes, numbness in the spine, a lack of nutrition and an acute anxiousness every time there’s a loud noise. For others, it may be their first visit and these are things to look forward to. Either way, FrightFest promises probably the biggest, purest, uncut dose of horror you can endure without going insane, complete with special guests, world premieres, live events and at least a couple of parties.

Iron Fist: What We Want To See In Season 2

Note: This piece was originally published on May 30, 2017, but in light of The Defenders hitting Netflix this Friday, we thought it had some thoughts worth reiterating.

Marvel and Netflix have created something truly special with their four superhero shows: Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. They've established a unique, ongoing, and shared universe that not only respects each character's source material, but also builds upon and expands their lore. Fans have clearly responded, as many media outlets report that these are some of the most-popular shows on Netflix.

Daredevil is heading into its third season, while Jessica Jones and Luke Cage are each preparing for their second, but what about the fate of Iron Fist? According to SuperBroMovies, Danny Rand himself, actor Finn Jones, will soon issue a Season 2 announcement. While that's certainly welcome news for the whole Marvel/Netflix enterprise, it's probably safe to say that Iron Fist

The Best Movie Fight Scenes — IndieWire Critics Survey

The Best Movie Fight Scenes — IndieWire Critics Survey
Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of film and TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Monday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best film in theaters right now?”, can be found at the end of this post.)

This week’s question: In honor of the bone-crunching “Atomic Blonde,” what is the greatest movie fight scene?

Read More‘Atomic Blonde’: How They Turned One Amazing Action Scene Into a Seven-Minute Long Take Erin Oliver Whitney (@cinemabite), ScreenCrush

I’ve got a soft spot for wuxia so the “best fight scene” immediately evokes Zhang Yimou in my mind. I could list every fight in “Hero,” sequences so spellbindingly beautiful and graceful you forget you’re watching violence. The bamboo forest battle from “House of Flying Daggers” is another all-timer, a mesmerizing fight that almost entirely takes place in the air. And the bone-crunching, table-smashing
