Plot Summary

In the autumn and winter seasons of 1845 Montana, the Blackfoot tribe of Chief Winterhawk are ill. His friend and blood-brother, trapper Guthrie, suggests he ask the settlers in a nearby settlement for help, but they, learning that Wintehawk's people are infected by smallpox, become afraid and back away quickly. Two fur trappers/smugglers, Gates and Scoby, tell Winterhawk and his braves to follow them and they will take them to someone that has the cure. The Trappers ambush and murder Winterhawk's braves as Winterhawk escapes after sensing that something is wrong. In retribution, Winterhawk and more of his braves abducts a young woman, Clayanna, and her brother Cotton from the settlement. Clayanna's uncle Finley, organizes a posse of several trackers by hiring Guthrie, under protest, to follow Winterhawk and his band of warriors, leaving Guthries woman, Pale Flower alone, to get Clayanna and Cotton back at any cost. However, the two murderous trappers who slaughtered Winterhawk's braves are ahead of the rescue party selling furs stolen from Pale Flower after raping and murdering her while Guthrie is away. Written by Volker Boehm & Larry B w/ corrections by Bret Culpepper.

Trivia When Brian Shaw, the owner of the Edmonton Oil Kings, moved his junior hockey team to Portland, Oregon, he named the team the "Winter Hawks" after this film. In order to save money, the team bought used jerseys from the Chicago Blackhawks, which is why the Portland Winter Hawks continue to have jerseys that are similar to the NHL Blackhawks. See more »

Crazy Credits Dedication: In the entire history of mankind, there has been no race of men who have lived with more passion, poetry and nobility than the American Indian of the 19th Century. Never have there been braver knights, more reckless horsemanship, such tragic nobility... Bound together by some strange enchantment that dismissed all misery and poverty, blending the reality of the great outdoors with fantasy, rituals, spirits and dreams, they have created a sober history that will never die; poetry made of blood, not flowers, that will touch a light to the spirit as long as America is remembered...To this magnificent race of men and women - the American Indian - this picture is respectfully dedicated.
