Storyline

A gang of thieves plan a daring bank robbery, making their escape across the rooftops of Los Angeles. The police are quickly called in, however, and only one of the robbers, Murdock, makes a clean getaway. Unfortunately, in order to do so, he is forced to dump the stolen cash into a mailbox, which he then finds is locked until midnight, forcing him to wait until the mailman makes his late night pickup. As he waits, he discovers that his hiding place has been observed by several other people, all of whom want a share of the loot. Written by Jean-Marc Rocher <rocher@fiberbit.net>

Stupid/cute B-flick with excellent Cybill performance
24 March 2001 | by See all my reviews

Not bad low-budget action-comedy with a quirky, puzzling script that doesn't bear close scrutiny but which is enjoyable nevertheless. Bo Svenson plays a first-time bank robber who stashes his loot in a mailbox; Cybill Shepherd plays a kooky divorcée who wants a little fun--and part of the action. Film takes place in one day and, within this tight framework, the four credited screenwriters (John Melson, James Edward Grant, Gilbert Ralston and Don Gazzaniga) manage to skillfully create characters who are interesting, amusing and colorful. Unfortunately, the Vietnam vet angle at the beginning is weak (it serves as both excuse and apologia for Svenson's bank robbing) and some of the action is poorly staged and filmed (and visually confusing). However, the final heist and car chase is a lot of fun, and Svenson and Shepherd are a nice match; they don't set off cinematic sparks, but they have an easy camaraderie. For those who admired Cybill's small role in "Taxi Driver", this will be more cause to celebrate: she is equally good here, very natural and relaxed, even soft. As for Svenson, he's more than just a straw-haired jock, he has a surprisingly light touch and he's up for just about anything (including impersonating a gay dog-lover). Jeff Goldblum's name is all over the video-box, however his role as a mugger is (thankfully) brief. **1/2 from ****
