Revisiting ‘The Karate Kid Part II’ (1986)

Welcome to Part Two of our Karate Kid retrospective, looking at all the instalments of the original franchise before the TV series-sequel Cobra Kai hits YouTube Red on May 2nd. This addition: The Karate Kid Part II.

Read part one of our series – Revisiting The Karate Kid – here.

The power of nostalgia is an important contributing factor when looking back on movies that featured in your childhood. It can often be the case that your affection for a childhood favourite may allow you to overlook some flaws within the film in question as it wouldn’t almost feel like you’re crapping on an old friend. This is very much the case for me when it comes to the first Karate Kid, which I revisited a couple of weeks ago. That film was a recurring one for me as a child, but its sequels less so (largely due to the

Revisiting ‘The Karate Kid’ (1984)

On May 2nd, Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) will come face-to-face once again in the YouTube Red series Cobra Kai, a continuation of The Karate Kid series that started 34 years ago. For any fan of the crane-kicking original franchise, this new series is a cause for giddy excitement of any fan of the franchise. Between 1984 and 1994, The Karate Kid franchise followed Daniel-san and his sensei Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita) through numerous karate tournaments, with the fourth part in ’94 following Miyagi with a new student. With Cobra Kai on the horizon, now seems as good a time as any to re-visit the narrative of Daniel and Miyagi, leaving aside the kung-fu centric remake with Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan. So, let’s kick off with there it all started: sunny California, 1984.

Daniel Larusso has moved to California from Newark, New Jersey so that his mother can explore a new career opportunity.

Creed 2: Brigette Nielsen May Make An Appearance

Creed II looks set to feature an appearance by Brigette Nielsen, reprising her role as Ludmilla Drago from Rocky IV. It seemed the Rocky series came to end with 2006’s Rocky Balboa, which featured the aging, titular character coming out of retirement for one last bout. That changed when plans were announced for a spin-off titled Creed, which would feature Rocky acting as a mentor to the son of his late rival/friend Apollo Creed.

‘Atropa,’ ‘Bonding’ ‘Cabeza Madre’ Make Canneseries Digital Cut

‘Atropa,’ ‘Bonding’ ‘Cabeza Madre’ Make Canneseries Digital Cut
Eli Sisach’s deep-space sci-fi thriller “Atropa,” Rightor Doyle’s kinky “Bonding” and Frenchmen Edouard Salier’s U.S./Cuba “Cabeza Madre” – where an initially lampooned Cuba in many ways comes off the better – all figure in the inaugural Canneseries Digital, a showcase for the riches – artistic, financial – of a burgeoning entertainment form.

Compulsive viewing, and homaging an ‘80s “Aliens”-school of murky, industrial deep-space sci-fi, American Eli Sasich’s time-warp mystery “Atropa” has an Off-World officer reuniting with his estranged wife in an outer galaxy, as her space vessel collides with another version of itself.

Creed 2 Begins Shooting as Stallone Shares First Set Video

Creed 2 Begins Shooting as Stallone Shares First Set Video
Filming on Creed 2 is officially underway. Rocky is one of the most enduring and acclaimed franchises in cinema history, with only a couple of bad movies to its name. Even though Sylvester Stallone is a bit too old to still be throwing punches in the ring, Michael B. Jordan stepped in as the son of Apollo Creed in 2015's Creed, which totally reinvented the franchise in an exciting way. Now, filming on the sequel has commenced, as revealed in a new set video shared by Stallone.

We saw a set video last month, that was likely during the pre-production phase, as Sylvester Stallone makes it clear in his post that this is the first official day of filming on Creed 2. The video features Stallone in front of his trailer on set in Philadelphia during a rainy day. He invites the camera crew into his trailer saying, "You guys want to

Good news for fans of Rocky, Creed, and superstar Michael B. Jordan: Filming on Creed 2 is officially underway. The news was shared by the boxing-movie franchise creator Sylvester Stallone himself by way of a behind-the-scenes video he shared over social media. Don't expect too much in this video except for a brief anecdote about just how far Sly has come since Rocky back in 1976, but it's a good sign that the Steven Caple Jr. film is gearing up for its highly anticipated release later this year. Creed 2 Synopsis & Cast Confirmed as Filming Officially Begins

Filming on Creed II is officially underway, and now the story and cast for the sequel have been confirmed. Sylvester Stallone tried to call it a day for the Rocky series with Rocky V in 1990, a sequel that was famously met with derision upon release. It took 16 years for Stallone to redeem the character with Rocky Balboa, where a long-retired Rocky is tempted back into ring to prove to himself he still has what it takes. The movie drew strong reviews and helped revive the actor’s career after years of box-office disappointments.

Beetlejuice Musical Will Premiere in Washington D.C. Before Scaring Broadway

Beetlejuice Musical Will Premiere in Washington D.C. Before Scaring Broadway
Did someone say “Beetlejuice on Broadway” three times?

A musical adaptation of the 1988 Tim Burton classic is heading to Broadway after making a stop at the National Theatre in Washington, D.C. for its pre-Broadway run in October, according to the New York Times.

Similarly, the National Theatre hosted movie-turned-musical Mean Girls last year before The Plastics celebrated their opening on Broadway this month.

The theater adaptation of Beetlejuice will be directed by Alex Timbers, a multiple time Tony nominee behind such projects such as Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, Rocky and Peter and the Starcatcher. He also is behind a

Warner Bros. is Developing a Beetlejuice Musical For Broadway

The classic 1988 Tim Burton film Beetlejuice is now being adapted into a Broadway musical by Warner Bros. Theater Ventures. I don't recall anyone asking for a Beetlejuice musical, but it's happening and it will make its world premiere at the National Theatre in Washington, D.C. in October.

I love the movie Beetlejuice, but I'm not sure what to think about it being turned into a musical. The music and lyrics come from Eddie Perfect, the Australian actor-writer-composer who’s also working on the musical version of King Kong. The musical is also being developed by Scott Brown and Anthony King (Broad City), director Alex Timbers (Rocky, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson) and choreography by Connor Gallagher (The Robber Bridegroom).

They also brought on the design team behind The Lion King to work on the puppets, sets, and costumes that will be used in the Beetlejuice musical. So, at least we
